Customer Reviews

Very fun with the right group of peopleI have a blast with this game. It's crazy how fast your tongue can get tied even on the simplest of categories when you're under pressure. Though if you're playing with people who aren't great with pop culture (or geography... my killer) it can be a bit of a drag at times. Especially if your group gets easily frustrated. But with the correct collection of chill but competitive friends, it's a great game. 5good game. This one did not disappointI bought this game based on other positive reviews. We are a board gaming family and are always on the lookout for a new, good game. This one did not disappoint. We have played with up to 8 people, including both adults and younger children. My youngest daughter is 9 and she did okay with the game, although I doubt it would work very well with children much younger than that age. Teens and pre-teens did just fine, although there were several categories that they were unfamiliar with.It can be fairly fast paced, but can also be played pretty calmly, depending on the group. Either way, it is a blast. It can really bring out the crazy in many people, as it requires you to think really quickly on your feet. We've had a lot of fun with the game so far, and look forward to playing plenty more in the future. 5Great Party Game for the Right AudienceI love this game. I think it's a fantastic party game, with a fun level of stress/tension without actually having high stakes. But it depends who you play with. Some people are very bad at it, not because they can't think of responses, but because they're half-heartedly playing and don't pay attention. That ruins the game and makes it feel like a chore. But if people are on, it's amazing. Sometimes you start to remember answers for the cards, so you might need to start playing with their suggested alternate rules. 5The game is great! The game packaging not so much...This game has been a huge hit with my family and friends! It is easy to learn and generates a lot of energy as well as hilarious moments. I would recommend this game to anyone. I only have one complaint and I don't consider it a deal-breaker:Possibly the biggest drawback, as other reviewers have mentioned, is with the design of the plastic liner that is supposed to contain the six decks. The niches for each deck are too shallow and cards will often spill over (See photo for reference). Also the finger grooves beside each niche are not deep enough to reach the whole deck.Any time I brought the game somewhere I inevitably had to re-sort the cards that had fallen out.I ultimately ended up throwing the plastic liner away and getting plastic boxes to hold the decks (See photo for reference).NOTE: An alternative such as rubber bands might possibly have worked, but I didn't test that. I personally wanted something more substantial.I'm still giving the Anomia Party Edition 5 stars because the game itself is still really solid even if the packaging is not. 5This is a really fun in-between game for my board game play groupThis is a really fun in-between game for my board game play group, since it only takes about 10-15 minutes per deck. We think a more apt name would be "Brain-fart" because sometimes you can't think of the name of a girl or a primary color. It's best played at 5/6 people because you get more matches and aren't too far apart to make it difficult to see the other players cards. With 4 players and less you'll have a difficult time matching cards up. With more than 6 players, it gets difficult to see what other people have and be able to read the cards; especially if you are at a rectangular table. 4Great Game! Instant ClassicIntroduced to my family by my brother who has the regular edition, my daughter want the regular edition with her birthday money. I found this party edition and the games have been just short of epic. The 6 decks are cards keeps the game fresh and everyone on their toes.So much fun for the family. Think fast, talk quickly and watch for cascades! This is a great game. You match your card's symbols with those of the other players on the table then call out the specific for the term on the other player's card: Car Make = "Ford". An easy classic and now a staple in our house. We play with adults, with the kids and their friends, on the boat, over drinks, etc. Only watch out is that this is not a game for the library. Everyone is guilty of getting excited and we can get loud when that happens. Secretly able to build the vocabulary of my pre-teens and knowledge of the world around them and have fun doing it. (BTW, if not for some of the more difficult words or names, I might never win!)Get this game, in the party edition. 5Surprisingly fun!A very easy game to introduce. Essentially just categories, but with a little twist that makes the game surprisingly fun!Quick how to play:-The deck is shared, start by placing the deck(s) in the center for everyone to flip a card in front of them on their turn.-Each player will have only a single card shown at a time, if drawing a new card place it on top of your previous card.-Each card will have a word and a shape.-If any players match a shape with another player then they will have a showdown.-In a showdown you have to name something in the word category of your opponents card before they do yours-First to do so wins the opponents card-When winning the card you take the opponents card and add them to your own separate pile for scoring at the end-Winning the card will reveal the card below, meaning another showdown may begin immediately-All showdowns must be completed before the next player in rotation draws-Lastly there is one other type of card. A wild card. This card is not added to your pile but is placed in the center. The wild card will add an additional rule that makes a specific pair of different shapes also match. Perform all showdowns of the wildcard first then the person who drew the wild still has to draw a card for their pile.Additional/house rules: more than one wild card can be in play, answers used by any player can't be used more than once per day(or game or forever)Overall, this game will keep you on your feet. There is no way to win AND be an inactive participant in this game on your phone. Also unlike a trivia game where there is only one answer, categories+matches give a wide variety of answers along with quick thinking.Reasons for 4 and not 5 out 5: this game isn't something you'll pull out every play session necessarily. Nice for engaging a new group quickplay or larger group play, but you can get tired of it. It's nice for a mix but not long back to backs for more invested gamers. Also although there are many categoried decks, if you play too much of the same deck you'll start noticing the repetitiveness of those words. Lastly the box is much bigger than needed and the card slots don't hold it very well. With all that box space you'd figure you would have a nice way to secure it all, but it's really much bigger than needed and could have been much more portable. Overall things that can be mitigated with some house rules and your own box for carrying. 4Quick Paced and FunMy family loves Anomia. My 15 and 16 year old kids especially love to play it with Mom and Dad. It's a fast paced word game and it keeps us on our toes and makes us laugh. The party Edition has several decks of cards so that more people can play and also makes it less likely to memorize the cards if you play it as often as we do. It's quick to learn and explain the rules so that you can easily teach new people without taking most of the party time explaining how to play. 5Fun, fun, fun - even if you are not that good at it.Great game for large groups. We have had 12 people play and it never gets boring and you have to pay attention all the time because you could always potentially be in play even if it is not your turn. Not a game to play if you are tired - you have to be sharp witted and quick to speak so someone else won't be able to win all of your cards away from you. A great game to have in your collection. 5Good for Family/Friend game nightsVery simply game that requires you to be quicker than your opponent to name something from a given category. Easy to learn, but builds a lot of anxiety during game play haha. A lot of yelling out random words to hopefully beat your opponent and get more cards to win the game. The party edition is nice as we often combine two decks when playing with more than 6 people. The more the merrier, in my opinion. Haven't played with more than 7, though. Just playing one deck all the time would certainly get boring and repetitive. 6 decks keeps up a good variety. 5
