    NOT 40X MagnificationDO NOT PURCHASE. Not 40x magnification. This loupe was purchased to view the inscription on the girdle of my diamond. I was shown the inscription using a 20x loupe by my jeweler. This loupe does not even come close to being able to give you the magnification necessary to view that same inscription. I left the seller feedback and got absolutely no response. This product is going back. DO NOT PURCHASE. 1Has hair between the lenses. Lens quality is on ...Has hair between the lenses. Lens quality is on the low side. Even though the frame is metal it is cheap and not smoothed. Lights work but the led bulbs are just sticking out. Doubt it will last long. And I really doubt it is 40x 1Awesome tool for rock lovers!I studied geology in college, and the most exciting thing about this Loupe for me is the UV light option. Turning it over, there's a little switch. Click it to the right and two very bright white LED's come on. Click it to the left and you get one UV LED. This is great fun because knowing that certain minerals show luminescence under UV light, having that option helps me identify the composition of the rock. I wish I'd have had one of these in college!!! Others have commented as to whether it's really 40x, but it doesn't matter to me -- it had me at the UV option! The little key needed to open the battery compartment stores in a cutout in the lining inside of the oval- shaped case, and the case is about the size of a goose egg (I'm guessing 3 inches long and 2 inches wide. Kudos to the seller for getting in touch to ask if it arrived and whether or not I was satisfied -- I totally am. If you have a friend who is an avid 'rock hound' like me, this would be an awesome gift. 5Not 40x magnification.I'm sending this back. The magnification is no bigger than my 10x loupe. It reads that the magnification is 40X but it is not even close to such magnification. The construction is cheap, and the sharp edges of the metal may cut you fingers. Similar items in eBay seem to be selling for 1/3 of the price that this seller charges at Amazon. 1Outstanding, but with one flaw.Every detail about the construction is first rate, especially for the price. Great hunk of glass, solid body and smooth hinge. The plastic case is excellent also, with a spanner properly stored to open the battery compartment. The attention to detail is quite impressive.Only quibble are the LEDs. The white setting is way too powerful for this light bucket. It's a glare inducing, retina burning experience. The UV setting is mostly just violet. It doesn't do a good job of illuminating when compared to another UV light. It is VERY near UV.Since I rarely need an on board light when using something like this, it is well worth the money.I would strongly recommend this to someone who uses loupes and hand held microscopes, just be careful with the light. 4Heavy.I bought this item to carry with me to estate sales, thrift stores, etc, mainly to verify handpainted art vs prints. It's a little overkill for that, as it turns out, but I've used it several times around the house for other things and it has come in very handy. It's heavier than I was expecting - just over 3 ounces. The optics are better than I thought they would be, but focal length is very short. The lights are VERY bright. I also was not expecting this to ship directly from China. I would not have bought it, had I known that. (It took over 2 weeks to arrive.) The little swinging cover is very loose, even after tightening. You couldn't carry it in your purse without something to protect it, because the cover won't stay in place well enough to prevent scratching. I don't know if it's really 40x or not... it's definitely more than the 4x that one reviewer claimed. I have one of those German folding magnifiers that's made for viewing coins or stamps, and it's a good bit stronger than that. 4Only 10x magnification, not 40xUnfortunately I didn't notice or heed the review by Elizabeth Chavez pointing out the "40X" version is only 10x. I have a two other 8x and 10x magnifiers and this one magnifies almost exactly like the 10x one. And not returnable to the non-Amazon seller I bought it from.The magnification quality is nowhere near that of my twice as expensive 10x one, which I didn't expect it to be, however that means it's also not very useful as a 10x magnifier. You'd be much better off spending more on a triplet model. 1
