Customer Reviews

A Puzzle to Grow WithThis puzzle is very cute and very well made. I bought it for my 3yo granddaughter, who loves puzzles. When I gave it to her, she didn't like it as much as the traditional square type, but I jumped the gun a little. She just started pre-school! But she can still play with the animals, name them, and say what they "say." And I think she will grow into it and like the challenge of the different format when she does. 5Great Challenge on Multiple Levels! Our granddaughter loves this puzzle that we gave her for her 5th birthday! I had been looking at it for over a year. Decided the timing was right--a good challenge, but no so challenging that she would get too frustrated The puzzle can be put together from left to right, or from right to left. This will determine whether you are using capital letters or lower case letters. Also, they need to be tracking their alphabet, (what comes next) as they are identifying the letters. The letters correlate to the name of the animal/bird etc puzzle piece. For example, V is for vulture. Some animals are fairly common and easily identifiable, while others are a little more challenging. We also have the spatial aspect of the puzzle. This puzzle is put together a little differently than some---yes, you are going in one direction, but some of the pieces are a little more challenging to figure out how they connect to the previous piece. So, you are dealing with 1) the spatial aspects of putting the puzzle together, 2) tracking the letters of the alphabet, 3) Remembering whether the letter is upper or lower case, and 4) identifying the animal as a clue to what letter this might be.The only negative point about this puzzle (in my opinion) is that it does not have a lid or a case. Once you tear the plastic off of the puzzle, you do have a nice little box that it's in, but nothing to prevent pieces from being spilled or lost. Overall, though, it's a wonderful puzzle! 5Well made, interesting and fun - not your average puzzle. This is such a fun puzzle to do with my preschooler. Mind you - it's difficult. They will struggle with it. Heck - I struggled with it the first time it got dumped out and I had to put it back together. But - that is the fun part. It's not this quick WHAM BAM I'M DONE puzzle. It requires your preschooler to think and work - which is why I love it. Each time is a 20 minute event of talking about each of the pieces and their associated letter. Plus - it is very thick and well made. I also love that the tray has a stove and plate on it - it lets them use it for more than just a puzzle, it's a fun toy to imagine cooking with. It's unique and fun! 5Fun animal puzzleAdorable puzzle for kids and the adults here had to try it too. It was a little challenging, but we figured out you pick capital letters or lowercase letters on the animals. They have capital letters on 1 side and lowercase on the other. They fit together with all capitals or all lowercase. Each animal piece varies in size. There are a few animals that were so small we had to put aside so our little doesn't eat them. Most are not a choking hazard. Our toddler likes to hold each animal and make the noise the animal makes. Right now she prefers to take the puzzle apart after we put it together to put it away. We find animals from this puzzle in random places, like a dolphin in the cupboard or an elephant in the pantry. It arrived on time in a tall skinny box with ample cushioning. 5Not an easy toy for toddlers learning the alphabetPersonally, I hate this puzzle. Like most large puzzles, my 3yo loves dumping it out but not putting it back together. After putting this back together myself once or twice I almost threw it away. It is hard even for an adult. It is painted on both sides of each piece, one side with capital letters and the other side with lower case. That's great except the pieces aren't symmetrical, so if you want to put it together on the lower-case side it's a mirror image so it would go from right to left instead of left to right, the "z" picture would come first and the "a" picture would come last. My child hardly knows the difference between capital and lower case yet. Another reason it's frustrating is that there is a bunch of empty space at the top, and the pieces don't fit together, they just stack on top of each other and squeeze together inside a frame. It was nearly impossible to remember how all the little pieces fit together after the dog for "D." I quickly decided that I was not going to keep this "puzzle" if I didn't do something to help. I highly recommend this - get a pencil and outline each piece one at a time inside the wooden frame. This ruins the ability to do the puzzle upside-down on the lower-case side but we wouldn't use it that way anyway. My kids like using this puzzle more as wooden figures for play. They stand them up alongside their wooden train track. For that purpose this is a beautifully painted wooden toy set. 3Difficult to store, loose image will get lost or destroyedThis is a nice quality puzzle and playset but it has two big drawbacks: first, it has no cover, so you have to find something else to store all the pieces in. Second, the image that shows what the puzzle looks like completed and what the 26 pieces are is printed on a loose piece of brown paper that can in no way be attached to the wooden box (unless you glue it on yourself). Really no excuse for either of those faults--with a decent cover with the photo printed on it I'd give this 5 stars, but they are big enough drawbacks to lop two stars off. 3Very thoughtful puzzle.I bought this for my daughter who homeschools her 2 and 3 year old. It exceeds my expectations. Very sturdy and well made. The kids use the individual pieces as "play food" with their pots and pans. She also uses them to reinforce beginning sounds and put them in A to Z order. This is important to be able to make the puzzle. Each piece touches the next letter, for example, the A piece touches B, B touches C, etc. Note: there is no outline of the pieces on the puzzle base. All of the food names are basic, at least to most Americans. C is corn, not cauliflower. X is "Xmas cookie", in case you were wondering. U is "upside-down cake". K is "ketchup". N is "noodles". Z is "zucchini". Maybe not the best but better than using a foreign food the child may have never heard of and will never see. The puzzle holder is a tray on one side and when flipped over, it's a stovetop. There are no downsides to this fun learning tool. I highly recommend this. 5Great puzzle! My 3 year old received this for Christmas. She loved the animals and loved to take them out and play with them. She couldn't really put it together on her own at that age. Now she is 4, and can do it on her own. The puzzle has great colors and a cute variety of animals. Each animal represents a letter, uppercase on one side, lower on the other. This means there are two ways you can solve the puzzle, using all upper or all lowercase letters. The pieces are wood and have taken a beating for almost a year now. They have been dropped many times on our tile floor. I did have 2 animals break, but was able to glue them back together with no problem. It is helpful to keep the paper that comes with it that shows you how to solve it. 5Fun and ChallengingI ordered this puzzle for my 4-year old grandson. He has the BeginAgain Animal Parade puzzle and loved it so much I decided to order the Farm puzzle. These puzzles really challenged him (and me) the first few times of trying to put it together. I have to admit that my grandson got the hang of it before I did and soon had it memorized. He also likes to assemble the puzzle standing it up rather than flat on the table which is a bit more challenging. While learning how the pieces fit, he's also learning the alphabet and what letters come next. The puzzles are well made. We'd love to see more styles available in this type of puzzle. I'd definitely recommend these puzzles for hours of fun. 5Great educational puzzle with great replay valueOne of the best toys purchased this Christmas.Pros:It's a puzzle for older kids - 4 and up could probably manage to put this together. I've seen several other puzzles similar to this where you try to put the pieces together in a box and you have to rely on the picture they give you. Here you can use the alphabet as a guide so it teaches or reinforces the alphabet. I put this puzzle together and it was fun for an adult as well. Two puzzles in one - one side is puzzle for upper case and the other side is a puzzle for lower case alphabet. It's a stand up toy for playing make believe. My kids have used these puzzle pieces to act out different things - being a vet, living on a farm, being a teacher and showing the kids things on a farm. The pieces are made from wood. Wood is sanded down so there are no rough edges. Paint does not chip off. Pieces are brightly colored. There is a storage container. Although the container itself is this long box that doesn't really fit anywhere so we have to slide it under the sofa for now.Cons:A few of the pieces are small enough that I would not feel comfortable leaving my toddler alone with this. The toy isn't for him but he's in the house. 5
