Customer Reviews

Somewhat differentWhat makes this special is that it is easy to handle for those who have trouble gripping. Unlike the marble one that for someone with moderate to severe neuropathy or arthritis on the hands cannot grip well. 4Basic chinese checkers set.I bought this because I remembered playing chinese checkers as a kid. It works fine. Some pegs are a tight fit. But not an issue. I leave the pegs in the board bc the bag to hold the pegs is slightly too small for all the pegs and bc it gets stuffed to the brim (making it essentially round) it won't fit into the box without bending the box. Not a big issue, just can't flip the box over or the pegs will fall out.But also, the directions aren't the greatest. I hope we are playing right based on the directions but am not certain. It doesn't clarify if we are supposed to leave all the color pegs on the board or not. None the less. We have a good time playing together. 3Classic game, but didn't get the set pictured. The set purchased from Dazzling Gifts through Amazon was not the set pictured. I wanted an 11" set with marbles (so they could be easily replaced if lost) and paid more to get one -- but got the kind with wood pegs sold for $5 less in other listings. So keep that in mind. The pegs are wood and fit nicely into the board. It looks like the replacement pegs sold on Amazon will fit into this board. They are listed as .31" in diameter and I measured the holes in this board to be a little over 1/4 inch.Fun game, it's a classic. Was this review helpful for you? Nothing more aggravating than trying to reach between tight spaced marbles and knocking one or more out of position. This is widely enough spaced to enable you to pick one out of the middle of a pack, and the pegs don't 'escape' and roll around on the board. Reasonably nice quality production. My only gripe is that there are no gridlines on the board, which is difficult for some players to adjust to. 5It's all about fun and we have fun - but if you're a ...Purchased because we thought it would be easier for arthritic fingers; however not all the holes are spaced properly or in line, making it slightly more difficult to play. The board has no lines to indicate proper "jumps" so we added lines. The star points aren't colored which allows players to have whatever color they want, while also sitting where they want, BUT sometimes players forget which point is their goal and navigate to the wrong point. It's all about fun and we have fun - but if you're a die-hard player you may not find it fun. 3Great pegs and wooden base for a classic game!I loved playing Chinese checkers decades ago and got this durable set to play with my grandchildren.Pros: Terrific little pegs instead of marbles... no marbles slipping out of place and ensuing quarrels about placement Pegs are great because of unusual almost-hourglass shape, easy to grip for children and adults Durable, wonderful wooden base, nice and thick... huge improvement over tin or pasteboard sets Set has small cloth bag with drawstrings to hold the pegs for storage Wood was finished so there are no splinters or rough spotsCons: NO LINES... my vision isn't great and the kids had trouble making correct moves without lines. Holes were not drilled in straight lines. I used a ruler and a fine-tipped permanent marker to draw lines, and I could not draw a line in a row, I had to adjust the ruler repeatedly. Does not interfere with the functionality of the game but is aesthetically annoying. The drawstrings are string and do not hold well unless tied tightly and wrapped around the end of the bagSummary: I adore the game and would buy this same product again, in spite of the need to draw the lines myself. The pegs are fantastic and avoid great frustration. The board is sturdy, far superior to metal and pasteboard boards. I would recommend this product over any set with marbles. Just be prepared to use a ruler and permanent marker! 4Well made wooden peg Chinese checkersI am so glad I bought this wooden peg version of Chinese checkers rather than the marble type. The pieces stay put/easier to pick up than marbles and are definitely not too small to grasp for me; I have very large hands/fingers similar to most men. Now that my 10 and 7yo kids have been playing it amongst each other and with the adults, I can totally see how unstable marbles which lose their position can be frustrating. What would make it perfect: fold for travel or come in a large pouch( to store this flat board) and come with a smaller pouch to store the pegs. This game comes in a flat cardboard box which is not ideal for travel nor long term storage( in the hands of kids).Only problem I foresee: If we ever lose a peg, where to get a replacement? Marbles would be easier to sourceBut I would definitely buy this again because I paid only $12 (cheaper than the Barnes and Noble version and superior to marble versions) 5Old to new game for multiple players, different skill levels.I grew up with this game but then it usually played with marbles on a metal board. The marbles easily rolled out of the mere dimples provided for them, and made quite a racket on the metal. This version, wooden board with deep holes, and wooden peg playing pieces is a major improvement over the old version I grew up with. The only downside is the pegs are a little loose in the holes which occasionally can be a problem. Upsides of this game is that its a new experience for most children in my experience, the pieces are very colorful, up to six people can play, and no pieces are captured or removed, a plus for some very sensitive players. It is essentially a race game, but with interesting twists of indirect movement, and helpful positions of other pieces constantly appearing and disappearing. The pieces can even be used to just make colorful designs that have nothing to do with the game play as a solitary activity or for younger kids. It is a competitive game but without a sense of ruthlessness and lends itself to a family of different ages and skills. Being very low tech, it requires no electricity much less software, a good counter balance to computer games. Its also a good price. It has a cloth bag to store the pieces. 4Very nice game.Quality game. The pegs are easy to handle and the bag to store them is a nice bonus. My kids and I really enjoy this and I prefer it to the metal and marble version I had as a child. My 3 year old likes making patterns with the pegs because he doesn't understand the game yet, versatile and good for fine motor skills. The instructions could be more clear for those unfamiliar with the game, but otherwise I would recommend this. 5Nice wooden game with easy to grasp pegsThis is a nice version of Chinese Checkers, with pegs instead of traditional marbles, but the holes in the board are not bored evenly. It's still able to be used, and it's nice that it's all wood, but wish the makers had paid closer attention to the hole drilling. It's not real noticeable until you're in the middle of a game, and then realize the wholes aren't even across. 4
