Customer Reviews

Great colors, not so great qualityThese colors are very nice. However, the tip breaks quite often, and then after sharpening it, the tip has broken right away on more than a few of them, and then I end up having to sharpen them even more, which wastes the pencil. The colors are really nice. A few of them, however, have what looks like sparkles in them, and it makes them produce a color that is streaky and the hard glitter actually scratches the surface that you are coloring, which produces a non-smooth look to the color. Even after sharpening these particular pencils, there's always an area of the tip that has this hard particle in it and causes it to scrape the color off the area you're coloring.Overall, the price is good, so are the colors, but if they are going to break so often that they run out quick, I'd say it's best to invest in a better set of pencils. 3Where have these been all my life? These are a must have for children, they work BETTER than the paints with water. Super pretty, super easy to use, no dripping, no dipping several times to get them to work, they just work, first dip, Very Well, No Mess. I used them without water when I first got them because I thought they were just "watercolor" colored pencils. When a friend said to dip them, I was incredulous with what I saw, one dip into water and the pencil's "lead" turned into a smooth watercoloring brush, but better! I still can't believe how cool they are. You can be an artist without Any mess. 5Nice colors. Good introduction to the medium.I wasn't really sure what to expect with these since my first set of water color pencils was with a really cheap store brand kind, which had really wimpy colors. These are very vibrant whether they are used dry or wet. I like how they put suggestions for use in case this is your first introduction to water color pencils. My only mild complaint about the set is the 24 pack of these don't match the 24 pack of normal pencils (ex: salmon is in these but not a standard 24 set of pencils). That's most likely a non-issue for everyone else buying these, but yeah.To those saying that they break super easily, it's not the pencil. It's your sharpener. A dull sharpener will eat up any pencil you throw at it. I've read people having issues with more expensive brands as well. I sharpen mine with a knife and keep that sharp with a sharpening steel. If you don't trust yourself with a flat blade or you're giving this to a child, just make sure you invest in good shapeners and replace them/the blade when they get too dull to sharpen your pencils. 4Okay kids' or starter setI bought these to try out watercolor pencils and... they're okay. Like so many kinds of art supplies, once you try a better quality product, it's very difficult to go back. Specifically, these have very hard lead that makes it difficult to lay down a decent bit of color without scoring the paper. The colors also don't activate (with water) as easily as better brands. That said, they're pretty cheap and you could do worse than throwing a box of these and a waterbrush in your bag. I'd recommend them for school kids or adults that want to try something different in their coloring books on the cheap. If you already like colored pencils or watercolor, save yourself time and money and skip straight to the ones you really want. 3Favorite watercolor pencilsI LOVE these pencils! I've tried a couple other brands of watercolor pencils and, surprisingly, it's good ol' Crayola that has been the best. The color goes on smooth and is much richer than the other brands. My only wish is that they made a larger set with a greater array of colors.I'm glad my 7-year-olds haven't questioned why I have my own pencils that I won't share with them...because I wouldn't, and then I'd feel like a jerk for refusing to share colored pencils with my kids. But these are awesome for coloring books, and I really like the look of coloring with the pencils and then running over it with a damp paintbrush. It looks much more artistic to me, and I've never considered myself artsy, so they're very fun to play with. I'll definitely stick with this brand when it's time to replace them. (Also, if you're buying any watercolor pencils for use in adult coloring books, the KUM AS2 pencil sharpener is a worthwhile investment. A little pricey, but you get MUCH more mileage out of your pencils and much finer points, which is useful for the tiny spaces often found in mandalas and such. Kum AS2, Two Hole Automatic Long Point Pencil Sharpener, Mfg Part Number 1053021 ( extra lids not included ) 5Vibrant colors and some very pretty results!I had heard good things about Crayola pencils in general and thought I'd give these watercolor pencils a try. I was pleasantly surprised with how vibrant and pigmented the colors were. They blended easily with the smallest amount of water, and I also tried dipping the pencil tip directly into the water before coloring. Both methods gave me some really pretty results. I wish these came in a pack with more than 24 colors, although the fact that they blend with water probably eliminates some of the need because you can mix colors together to create new ones.I have only tried these using the Secret Garden Artist Edition (Johanna Basford) cardstock, so I'm curious to know how other paper handles the water, but I certainly have no concerns about the pencils themselves! 5I love these! I've been meaning to buy watercolor pencils ...I love these! I've been meaning to buy watercolor pencils but they're kind of pricey for me right now. These are so amazing for the cost. The colors are bright by themselves and when you add water the possibilities are endless. They blend really nicely. The one thing I will say, is that if your paper is thinner, they will bleed a little bit if you have another paper underneath. And if you put too much pigment in one spot and add water to blend you might get a hole in thinner paper. But all of these were minor things, and I chalk it up mainly to the quality of the paper as I was using it on one of those adult coloring books. But for the price, and the amount of colors I get and the boldness of the colors, I love it. 5Ok Set...Aqua keeps breakingThis is an ok set of watercolor pencils. The aqua is defective in my set. It broke right out of the box and everytime it is sharpened it breaks. So the watercolor paint in the casing is defective. The set doesn't provide a beige but it provides a salmon and peach which are very close in color. It doesn't provide a pink, but magenta, raspberry and red violent, again close in color. It doesn't include a light brown, but two types of grey. I couldn't get the white to show up on my watercolor paper, so not sure how it performs. If you look closely at the picture of the aqua pencil, you see the broken lead, for lack of a better term, and the lead in the pencil is bent. It will break when I use a hint of pressure2 stars for the damaged pencil and color selection4 stars for how nicely it picks up color and spreads with my waterbrush penI won't purchase again, I will purchase a brand that doesn't break when sharpening or coloring/painting.UPDATED 5-21-2017I have changed my mind and rating, and I will be purchasing a larger set of these watercolor pencils in the future. Although the aqua green keeps breaking when I sharpen it, I am able to use the broken tip, by wetting it and applying to my watercolor paper. I am able to achieve what I want. These colors are lovely when you wet the tip and lay down the color and when you apply the wet pencil over color. The intensity of the color changes.I have been working on this painting for several days. I discovered the peach works great as sand. And the peach, light grey and brown looks great on the rocks.I am a novice when it comes to watercolor painting and coloring. Working with these pencils and water brushes makes creating watercolor paintings mess free and with better control than working wirh pan paints, brushes and a cup of water. 4Great for skin!About 10 years ago, I discovered these pencils, and discovered, by accident, that they make wonderful face paints for kids. My daughter was in 1st grade and going to be a tiger in a play. Parents were encouraged to use face paint. We used these pencils, and she looked better than all the kids in dress rehearsal, so much so the teacher asked if we would do all the kids! Simply dip the tip in water and begin drawing on skin. The colors are incredibly vibrant. It wipes off instantly with water, leaving no mark whatsoever. I know this isn't the intended use of this product, but these pencils provided endless hours of fun for my daughter and her friends. Now, 10 years later, my daughter still likes to use them. She is hoping to start up an airbrush tattoo business, and she wanted these for smaller kids with hesitant parents. All her friends loved them! 5Adults enjoy coloringI read numerous reviews for Crayola pencils and many others that are available. I wanted a pencil that lasted longer than the first sharpening. These are made from reforested wood and from Brazil. The pencils may be used wet or dry, with or without a paintbrush. More options for the casual artist and the more advanced.I bought two sets of the pencils and coloring books. My daughter and I colored for many years. It was our quality time to remain silent or discuss something that was on her mind, positive or negative. My daughter works long hours for a company that is very far away. I wanted her to remember how to relax and have quiet time. She was speechless and thrilled when she opened the package. It is an I love you gift with memories and a future to make more. Thank you Amazon.com for the wonderful products. Thank you previous reviewers who helped me make the best decision. 5
