Customer Reviews

it's still a fine product to introduce into a gameAs an owner of the original White-Wolf Tarokka Deck for Ravenloft (3e) and fan of Ravenloft in general, I had to order two of these (one to keep sealed next to the 3e version and one for my games)! While not as artful as the White-Wolf version was, it's still a fine product to introduce into a game, use in Ravenloft, or even as a Tarot deck if you see fit! I do miss some of the classic references, but times change. 5The quality is pretty bad for the priceThe quality is pretty bad for the price. It s just plain printed paper. It s not durable, flexible or built to shuffle without sticking like a normal deck of cards. That would all be fine if it wasn t priced the same as one of the fancy playing card decks or tarot decks.Don t shuffle it, it s gunna get bent, scuffed and torn. 3It is ok at bestOf all the cards you can get for D&D this is the lowest quality. Get this deck only if you want to run Curse Of Strahd. 3Look great but feel cheapThese worked great for their intended purpse. I used it for a psychic reading from a fortune teller in a hombrew game of D&D 5e. It went over incredibly well! However! They feel really cheap, I avoided shuffling them as I was scared it was going to damage the cards. They're really thin and the material feels week not at all like normal playing cards or even trading cards like MTG.Final Word: If you want to use these they work great, but if you don't want cheap feeling cards don't buy. It's not the seller either it's the manufacturer, no matter where you buy them from they will feel this way. 3Forays into the Mists will never be the same.I'm currently running two Curse of Strahd campaigns and playing in one online. So far, one party has done. Tarokka reading, but with a standard playing card deck. Now that I have this deck, the second group will have a wonderfully dark visual aid for their experience.I also use Tarokka effects put together by the folks at Sly Flourish and a few Redditors. This pack of 54 black-and-white playing cards will see a lot of use at my tables, from random battle effects to divinations by the party sorcerer. If you plan to run Curse of Strahd, if you have a party with a character interested in divination magic, or you would like a horror-themed visual aid for your playing card mechanics, this deck is an inexpensive and versatile add-on that is absolutely worth it. 5Awesomely thematic deck of cards for any ttrpg. The cards are black and white, of a quality that will draw no complaints. The art is grim and/or gothic. They can be used as regular playing cards and instructions for a game specifically using these cards is included. If you fish around on the internet, there's a good chart for converting cards drawn into numbers as a dice replacement. Rather than roll for a random encounter tonight, why not have your poor players draw their own fate during their watch? 5No Prophet's Gambit rules includedUpdate: Customer support from Gale Force 9 did get back with me and provided a pdf version of the rule set. Better, but still not as described.------The card design is nice, but are printed on a stock that doesn't shuffle well. The cards are stiff and stick to each other. There were no instructions for the side game included. I contacted the publisher, Gale Force 9. After they finally responded all they could offer was a poorly copy and pasted word doc with no formatting or even paragraph breaks in the text. It was the least possible effort they could have made into resolving a known issue with this deck.Despite this, they continue to list Prophet's Gambit instructions as included, so buyer beware. 3But just like the minis it adds to the experienceIf you want to take your DnD game to the next level, really submerge your characters into Strahd's land of Barovia, then these are for you. Be prepared to use them on the fly though. It takes extra work to know the meaning of the cards quickly so that you are not stalling the game play. It is not a must have by any means. But just like the minis it adds to the experience. 4Use this Tarokka Deck to predict your PCs future...These are good quality cards meant to complement the Curse of Strahd: A Dungeons & Dragons Sourcebook (D&D Supplement). Curse of Strahd uses the cards to simulate at Tarot Card reading and to set some of the adventure parameters. While this can be done using a normal set of playing cards, the Tarokka Deck, adds an extra level immersion to you D&D game. The art is black and white. It is fantastic. I have seen at least one review that complain about it, but it reminds me of the classic black and white vampire flicks, like Nosferatu.Get these and predict Strahds defeat in style (or maybe a tpk). But it's all in the cards! 5Feels cheap, All in black and whiteDisappointed in the product. I was so excited to use with Curse of a Strahd... had contemplated making my own deck, but thought it would be cool to buy the original. The cards feel cheap and although the artwork is really cool, the whole thing is in black and white which instead of making it feel spooky makes it feel bland. 3
