Customer Reviews

A so-so version of an old favorite. Don't recommend buyingI got this for my boys ages 3 and 5 to play with. They enjoy playing for a few minutes and then get pretty tired of it. The plastic bubble covering is nice so the marbles don't go everywhere. However, it feels cheaply made and already some of the marbles are getting stuck in spots that take them out of game play.Overall, I would not recommend this because it's not that fun. 2Great game for on the go.This hungry hippo miniature game is perfect for on the go, but my kids like to play it at home too. It's small so they can take it anywhere, the table, their room, the car, the plane.... The plastic covering keeps the balls from coming out. There is little black pieces on the side to pop the balls back into play. Only thing is, ours game in red, not blue, so check to see if the listing says a specific color or various. We werent partial to color so we could care less, but some may. 5Cheaply made but fun; safe around babies! As some reviewers have said, it is cheaply made, and the pieces you push feel dinky, so I don't know how long it will last. On the other hand, my 3 year-old adores it. He really loves marbles and had been looking longingly at the full hippos game in stores, but with a now-mobile baby in the house, I told him we couldn't have marbles for a long time. I found this, and since the plastic dome keeps everything inside, we tried it. He's young enough not to care about playing the game properly (which I suspect would be hard to do; everything rolls around a lot, and it's hard to keep the game itself still), but he does like chomping the marbles, and it has been great entertainment on road trips or while sick and stuck on the couch. I wouldn't recommend it for older kids who would want to play with rules and actual competition, but it's fun for little kids just to play with. 4good bargainwe got this for our 2 year old because we figured it would be easier than chasing marbles around the house (this is entirely self-contained). Quality is so-so, about what you'd expect from today's plastic toys, but it's holding up well and he likes it a lot. BTW, it's bigger than you'd think, maybe the size of a frisbee. 5Great Game for a Long Plane RideI bought this for my daughter before our trip to Peru. The full size game is an absolute favorite of hers so I thought we'd give it a try. On all 3 planes, each lasting more than 2 hours, we played this game atleast 4 times. It was't very loud, distracting or disturbing for any other passangers which made me like this even more. The only problem was the handle on the yellow hippo got stuck a few times. Other than that, we liked it. 4Small game.I couldn't decide between the travel game or the regular game. We decided on the travel one because my son wanted the one with the lid so he didn't lose the marbles... it's much smaller than I expected I figured it would be smaller than the regular size game how ever it's the same price and much much smaller. I was a bit disappointed. However my 3 year old loves it and takes it every where. In the car he even sits in the grocery cart at the store and plays with it wich makes getting groceries much easier! 3Cute; balls can get stuckCute travel size game. It's nice that the balls are contained - they don't get lost and there's no choking hazard - however, sometimes they get stuck in parts of the game. It can be frustrating to play and have the balls stuck. Obviously it doesn't work exactly like the regular version, but it still keeps my two boys entertained for a little while. It also hasn't broken yet, and my 4 and 6 year old's aren't exactly gentle. :) 3They're still fun, after all these years (and now they're portable)!I was a total fanatic for this game as a kid. So, I bought it out of pure nostalgia. The kids LOVE it! It's a great travel size, and since it is self contained, no lost parts rolling around in the car. Much like the full size game, you use a thumb to flip the "marbles" out and then use your hippo's "tail" to make your hippo shoot out and eat the marbles. The hippo that eats the most wins! The movements on both the parts of the game (marble shooter and hippo head) move without difficulty and are easy for even little hands to do (but surprisingly still comfy for my big hands). I imagine it will hold up quite well, since it took a beating the night we broke it out for all the nieces and nephews. The only issues are that only 2 can play (full size game is 4), and I would think on a car trip that clickity-clacking noise the hippos make would drive me to vehicular homicide after a while. But, those are pretty small issues, and overall, this thing was HIT with the kids from 5-43. So, I would say grab this one before your next road trip! 5Great for a 3 year oldVery portable, great for home or travel with a small child. You can easily fit it into a backpack or travel bag. The balls do get stuck but it's not suppose to be fancy like the original game. My 3 year old really likes playing with it by himself too, seeing who can eat up the balls first. I would not recommend this for older children because it is not solid enough, could break easily. 4Great for younger kids that want to play the game without the mess!Bought this for my daughter when she saw the commercial on TV for the game. I didn't want to get her one since the little balls would be lost in a day or two. I ran across this product and was happy to see the little balls are enclosed in a plastic shell. It's great fun without the mess or missing pieces. It is smaller than I expected, but it is a travel game and is the perfect size for a toddlers hand. The build quality is good pretty hard plastic it's been dropped, thrown, stepped on and its still holding on. Great quality game for the price! 5
