Beautiful Cake but Cheap Paint that ChipsI hesitated on writing this review because my daughter absolutely loves the cake and plays with it every single day. However, I feel like potential buyers should be aware of how cheap the paint job is and how easily it chips and crackles off. The attached pictures are after 4-5 months of play but paint chipped off even the first day she opened the cake. I probably could have contacted the company for a replacement but I m not sure if this is a batch issue with just ours or a consistent issue with this item. After purchasing and playing with several other companies wood painted food items we have not had the same issue with paint durability. 3Missing purple candleEver since my 2 year old's birthday last month, she has been obsessed with creating a "cake" by stacking her play food up into several layers, singing the "Happy Birthday" song, and blowing out an invisible candle. I researched for the best toy cake and purchased this product based on the amazing reviews. I was not disappointed upon receiving this; my daughter's face lit up and she played with it immediately. However, when she had a tough time cutting up the pieces, I stepped in to help and I, myself, found it difficult to do! I believe if the cake stand was a little wider than the cake, it may be easier to cut and scoop out the individual pieces. Moreover, the main reason I am sending this toy back is because it came with 2 blue candles and no purple candle -- you cannot match the purple piece to a candle of the same color. I am repurchasing in hopes that the next cake will have all the right pieces. 3Dramatic Play in KindergartenI purchased this toy birthday cake to be the centerpiece of my dramatic play area in kindergarten. I have 20 students who play, work, and learn in a public school setting. I theme my dramatic play area once a month and decided to set it up as a birthday party. I looked around for birthday cake ideas. Found many. Decided to buy this one and let me tell you it's been a fantastic toy. It's been played with, dropped, put together, taken apart thousands of times and it still looks brand new. The felt flame on the candles - fantastic. The paint, velcro, etc - all fantastic. I'm planning to buy the pizza from Imagination Generation next. Thank you for a fantastic produce. (And...... do NOT buy M&D . ) 5Sturdy, but paint does rub offAll in all, this is a very cute, sturdy toy. I was disappointed that the plate holds the cake SO snugly that it is impossible to put the cake knife through the pieces to cut them out. You have to take the cake out completely off the plate to "cut" it. Still, this is a minor disappointment. The colors are very true to the photo. It all seems very sturdy and well-made. Additionally, it is a heavy wood. I sad to report that within the first couple days the paint started to rub off on some of the corners of the cake pieces, but I'm not sure how it can be avoided with all the scraping that goes on. We have spent MANY happy hours playing with this cute cake. I think my favorite thing about it is that, while the cake plate itself is pink, it is not a big, huge, only-pink cake. Any child would be happy to play with a cake with such bright and cheery birthday colors. 4Adorable cake, SUPERB customer service from Imagination GenerationAdorable cake. My three children absolutely LOVE it. The company that makes it provides five star customer service. When we lost our little "happy birthday" sign that is supposed to sit in the middle of the cake, they very kindly sent me a whole new cake at no charge. I tucked the rest of the new cake away to use for spare parts, should any other pieces go missing. I couldn't be more pleased. 5After two weeks of play...After two weeks of play the paint is chipping off. However, the product is super fun and works well! My daughter likes to play Happy Birthday everyday. I somewhat expected the paint to chip off as it does on most wooden toys. I wish it hadn t though. My favorite part of the toys design is that the cake plate has a ridge all the way around so the cake doesn t slide off when she is carrying it or cutting it. Overall, adorable toy! 4Perfect!Bought this for my daughter's 2nd birthday. She loves it! It's perfect size and so cute. The quality seems great, beautiful detail, no chips in paint or anything. She loves matching the color candles with the appropriate pieces of cake. So fun! 5Great Cake!I bought this for my daughter who just turned 3. She had a plastic birthday cake that was handed down to her and needed replacing, and I'm so glad I chose this one! Not only is it a pretty cake, but I can tell it's going to last. The Velcro is strong (which some people find to be a negative, but not me or my daughter)! We also love that the candles fit down into the cake and stay put (as opposed to other brands that have shallow holes, or weak Velcro holding them on). I read complaints about the knife not being functional, but my 3 yr old makes it work just fine. She even cuts it on the cake plate, which others were claiming was impossible. It takes effort, but she does it. Overall, we are very happy with this cake, and even though I now have to play "Birthday Party" 10 times a day, it's worth it!(**note: That "chocolate" piece in the middle, does not attach to the cake. I thought it was maybe magnetic or had a small piece of Velcro under it, but it doesn't. My daughter doesn't use it at all; no biggie.) 5Great Pretend Cake ToyThere are a few birthday cake sets on the market, and I carefully considered all of them before choosing this one, and I don't regret it. My 3-year-old loves playing birthday party with this over and over again. This cake doesn't have too many pieces, the cake slices easily velcro together, and the candles fit securely in their designated spots. My daughter likes matches the candles to their spots by color. I understand reviewers that think the "happy birthday" piece should have velcro on it - that would be nice, but my daughter doesn't mind - she calls that part the "cookie." 5A hit with the 2 year old and the 6 year old as well!My daughter has received several presents for Christmas, but this is the one she has not put down since Dec 25th!It is a bit smaller than I thought but it worked great for her. She has been having a hundred birthday parties with her favorite stuffed animals and counting.Her big brother has been playing birthdays as well. Too cute! 5
