    Limited interest in these.My children won't let me get rid of a tissue box or paper towel roll without making something with it. So we are always looking for creative toys. Tinker toys and magformers rule in our house and I wanted to give these a try based on all the reviews. So far they haven't really shown much interest. We played for a little on Christmas morning but I too found them rather limited after the initial spinning. Just didn't inspire in our house. 3Great toy set, but might be difficult for little children to operate...This is a great set for a little constructor. My 3.5 years old son loves constructing complex stuff with toys therefore to encourage him we have purchased many sets for him (legos, mega blocks, thistle blocks, quercetti tubes) Each offer different fun but this one stands out being the most mobile one.It comes with 95 hard plastic pieces, some are to construct the base plate while another group is to carry the fun to the third dimension (the upright sticks) The rest of the pieces are colorful interdenting gears. Finally it has two handle bits which you need to move the gears round and round.You can put the gears and sticks in various combinations (gears on the side of sticks or sticks on top of gears or gears on top of each other etc.)After some trial and error experience with me (my son and I) we figured out the way they should be aligned to transfer a horizontal rotation to a vertical one. Then my son took over and started building interesting combinations. I am sure he will master it in time.My experience is that the parts are a little stiff which is good for non wobbling steady rotation but bad for the little one to stick them together. So younger children may need some help from the parents.The price ($30) is good considering the number of pieces. Each piece comes to around 30 cents which is lower than many other construction toys. (better than quercetti and lego duplos but slightliy worse than mega blocks.) Besides the storage can is a real good advantage to store it properly after play time.This toy set offers good fun for the little one and helps develop his/her fine motor skills as well as supporting the imagination. Yet it might be difficult to operate or master for younger children. I recommend it to anyone who is after a good toy set at a decent price... 5Difficult and doesn't workI have 6 grandkids, I bought 5 of these for them for Christmas. They all said for ages 5 and up. Our kids much older than 5 couldn't put these together and when an adult did they wouldn't work properly. After they figured out they couldn't play with them they dumped them all in a box. Had they not done that I would have sent all 5 sets back and bought something else. I was very disappointed in these gear products. 1Gears are a hit!This was a gift for my grandson, so I can't comment about the durability or construction. The gears come in a handy tub with handle which makes it easy for small hands to carry. They are great bright colors. He is 4 yrs old and I've heard has a great time constructing with the gears. His older sis, age 8 also has fun with the gears. I'll be looking to purchase additional gears to go with this set. 5Great for creatorsMy children were a little young for these, at first, but they are now always out on the floor. The kids like to make dinosaurs, transformers, cars, etc... with these.These toys do have some pointy parts, which I have learned the hard way many times. The kids also frequently step on these toys and never seem to get hurt too bad by them. 5Great family activity.My 3 and 4 year old grand children enjoy playing with this. They do need help occasionally to help snap pieces together or ideas of how to get gears to spin. They enjoy the mechanical side of this toy. What is surprising is the length of time they are interested in it. This is a great toy to play with kids. Make sure you keep pieces on table away from chewing dogs. Our one year old is even interested in it. Pieces are durable. 5Good intro to gears...start basic and let the child go with it.These were a 3rd birthday gift for our granddaughter. It was "early" to give it, but she made spome simple two and three gear constructions. By the time she was almost a year older, she was able to work in 3 dimensions. It's never too early to introduce a toy like this, but only show the most basic steps. The child will grow into it, and with exploring will expand on her/his own. 5A different and fun toy sure to please the whole familyOut of all the toys my son received for his birthday, Gears! was the first one we took out of the packaging and everyone, including adults, played immediately. My two year old was involved, but this toy was a little too advanced for him. My four year loves it and can make some really neat things. My husband made a crane we all had fun watching work. I read a lot of reviews before I bought this and the one I wanted to speak to was that the connecting pieces fit too snug for little hands to take apart. This is true, but if they didn't the toy wouldn't work so well. So if you read that negative of the toy, please don't let it stop you from buying Gears! We have not put this toy away and it's one I enjoy too! I'm over farming and excavating toys. This engineering toy is a nice change and lets everyone be creative together and is fun individually, too. 5My 4 yr old grandson LOVES this toy.I bought this last summer for my grandson, then decided he needed to be a bit older. Just gave it to him, now that he's four. His mother says "he's obsessed with it." A big hit. He's one of those kids who is fascinated by how things work, so this is perfect for him, and he now has the patience to really enjoy this. 5Inspires creative playMy kids don't like building blocks, legos, or doing puzzles, but they do like these gears. They really seem to keep the kid's interest. One big tub is sufficient for 3 or 4 kids to play together. They always come up with interesting designs and use them in imaginative ways. My 2 year old can't do it, but the 4 year old and 8 year old, and their friends and cousins of similar ages all seem to like them. I like them too. 5
