Customer Reviews

fun for allI first played this with my Nieces and Mother (and I am 48) at the request of my grade school niece who played with us while her pre-teen sister was the judge - so quite the age range!! Neither my mom nor I had ever played. It was extremely easy to learn. Even though my mom had to help my younger niece interpret a few of the words. AND TRULY without her sister showing her any prejudice the younger niece won!! It is just that kind of a game - where luck plays into it!! I played again this last Christmas with 8 family members who are all adults. It came down to 3 members only needing 1 card to win and my mom not having a single card BUT she came from behind to win!! LOTS OF LAUGHS for all. There are lots of variations on ways to play for those who have played it many times - let the judge float from one player to the next with each turn, as this keeps everyone guessing on how the cards will be interpreted - go with the funniest interpretation instead of 'real interpretation' - or just make up your own rules. Whatever you decide, I can't imagine that you won't enjoy this game with 3 or more people!! 5Creative fun, great for family and teensThis game has become a favorite of our kids, especially when playing with friends and we have a game or party night. It's fun and they are creative in their answers and thinking. We use it for kid's activity nights for our church events too as its very family friendly. This is a game that scales well, you can have few or many players and everyone can enjoy the fun.We consider this a great purchase and enjoy hours of fun. Give it a try, you'll be happy you did. For those I see who may dislike the game, the fun is in being creative in how you pair and answer things, and also being creative in selecting the "winner" It's not cut and dried but a fun flowing creative process that makes the game enjoyable.5 starts, we love playing and enjoying company with this game. 5Fun game that does not require massive brain power for adults, teens & kidsThis game is wonderful for families with adults, teens or kids. It is a refreshing non competitive game where no player can direct the outcome by being smarter, more knowledgeable, or experienced. The game consists of stacks of cards - green and red. Each player takes a turn at being the "judge" and draws a green card with a word on it such as "easy" or "disgusting" and announces the word to the other players. The other players hold seven red cards and each selects one of these red cards in response to the judge's green card word and passes it to the judge face down among the pile of other player's cards so that the judge cannot know which player sent a particular card. Players draw a new red card each time they send a card to the judge. The red cards may have words on them such as the name of a famous person, place, or thing, or other words like "spilled milk" or "my hair." The judge looks at and announces the words on all the collected red cards and chooses one that strikes the judge as complementing the his/her green card. The judge may decide to choose a red card that is the opposite of or related to his/her green card word, or one that is silly or makes no sense. The player who contributed the card that the judge selects wins and receives the judge's green card. The play continues until one player has collected eight green cards. This game is more fun with a larger group so it is a nice choice for rainy days, family vacations, and group gatherings. Highly recommended! 5Fun game for any number of peopleThis game is great because it can be played with such a varying number of people and you won't always have that one person that always wins. It helps to know a little about the personality of the people you're playing with. Some will be very literal and pick the card that is a perfect fit, while a more funny player may decide to pick the one that is the most ridiculous. It's good for different ages because a child can play with the way their mind works, but a bunch of adults playing together can make card combinations whose humor may go over the head of younger groups. Don't worry, nothing dirty that you'd have to filter the cards for. There is something for everybody from pop culture to more historical cards. It also has blank cards that allow you to create your own but I've never cared used those. I'd recommend it as the perfect impromptu game when company, even a less familiar group, is over as it gives you an insight into how each player thinks and it a perfect ice breaker. 5Great Party Game and a simple rule modification adds to funthis is a great group game for play during the holiday season when you have big groups of people. Our family NEVER plays these kinds of games by the original rules - the key change here is that instead of each player just putting a RED APPLE card face down that they think is the best match for the "dealer's" GREEN APPLE adjective/adverb card and then having the "dealer" select the best match, each player starting from the left of the dealer show's his RED APPLE card (containing a person, place, or thing) and argues why it is the best match. This adds a lot of fun to the mix as players can play off each others arguments, posture, connect to arguments from previous rounds, add in family specific details, etc. When all arguments are done, the "dealer" selects the best match as usual. The dealer is responsible for making sure the arguments are kept concise (20-30 seconds is usually plenty). If we have a large group we generally play once around and honestly don't really care who wins in the end - it is the fun that matters. 5This game has few cards than the stadard Apples to Apples Party BoxHad to return this once we found out that this has far few cards than our other Apples to Apples "Party Box" game. They need to make this distinction clear, such as a label front and center on their box indicating than this is not a standard version. Yes, in the details, it says the number of cards, but who off hand happens to know the exact number of cards that the game typically has?My guess is they are making the games smaller now so that you are forced into buying additional extension packs.*See attached picture. Box on the left is the standard version, box on the right that I ordered from Amazon is much smaller. 3Ultimate Party GameThis might be the ultimate party game. Cranium has got too many embarrassing activities for us introverted folks, Scattegories inevitably leads to arguments, and not everyone enjoys video games like Mario Party and WarioWare. Apples to Apples is hilarious, "family-friendly", and so easy that basically anyone can learn to play in just a couple minutes. You can pretty much play with as few or as many people as you want to and for as long as you want to. The box has recommended end points for given numbers of people, but you can really end this game whenever it's convenient and just call the person with the most won cards the victor. The game comes with a couple of blank cards for you to customize, but we went through our decks with Sharpies and altered any cards with people/events/etc. that we weren't familiar with, so our game is extra-customized. There are also expansion decks available, as well as the "sour" version, in which you can lose points, as well as gain them. If you enjoy Apples to Apples and your circle of friends can handle copious amounts of hilarious crudeness, then I also HIGHLY recommend Cards Against Humanity, which is exactly like Apples to Apples, but R-rated (at least). 5You can't go wrong with this game!I don't notice much difference from other Apples to Apples. There were a couple of political names that could be considered controversial. I just removed them when we came across them. Apples to Apples (all versions) is great fun to play. We play different versions to include various ages or we play in teams with little ones who can't read very well. We have had games that included a 90-year-old and some pre-schoolers (on teams). We always have family fun with Apples to Apples! We have several different versions at our house. My daughters who are teachers can use it at school, too. It is a game that can be played by players with varied ability and nobody gets embarrassed because they can't understand. The "judge" doesn't know if you are being funny , don't understand, or just don't have any other card to play. You can't go wrong with Apples to Apples! 5Good game for the whole familyThe first time I played this game was with my girlfriend and her family, we had I believe it was 6 people playing. It was a lot of fun even though I didn't do so well. I had the disadvantage because everyone else was in her family so they all knew each other a lot better then I did but we still had a lot of fun. The best thing about this game is that it is easy to play so even a young kid can play. My girlfriends niece is only 5 and she was able to play with us. She might not have understood some of the things but she enjoyed playing and we all had fun.Last Christmas I decided to get the game and play it with my family and it was a lot of fun. The funny thing is that me and my sister think so much alike she kept picking my card without even knowing it. That is the great thing about the game is that it is very engaging and the better you can read someone the better you will probably do. I am giving it four stars which I feel is fair. Its a great game but some of my older siblings kind of got bored of it. I guess to them it wasn't challenging enough but other then that its a great game, especially if you want something to play on a family night with your kids and maybe even their friends, Its not one of those games where you're limited to a few people. Hopefully you found this review helpful. 4Best for family gatheringsI don't know that a group of cocktail drinking adults could sit through too many rounds of this game without feeling a little silly, but it's perfect for mixed company. We always played tons of games at family gatherings and around the holidays when the whole motley crew would be staying with my grandparents...but as they began getting up in years it was harder for them to play host & hostess to all of us and things gradually started transitioning to my folks house more and more. My parents had candyland from when I was little (25 years ago) and that wasn't really cutting the mustard. I took it upon myself to get on amazon and order a dozen or so games for them to keep at their house and this was one of them.I had never heard of it before. I ordered it because I basically ordered the top 12 most popular games that appeared to be family friendly. It has been a few years since I purchased this and I can report it has gotten the most use out of the whole lot. I believe it's been such a big hit for the following reasons:- its easy enough for little kids to play & really enjoy (if they can read, they're old enough to play without a helper)- its fun for adults to play if there are little kids playing or hilarious old people playing- its good for families that don't see one another a lot because it involves a degree of making personality inferences when you're playing to win- every turn involves all the players so nobody has time to mess with their smart phone or iPad or whatever - its like actually engaging family time- it goes by pretty quickly. It's nothing like the time it takes to play monopoly or trivial pursuit and the like. If everybody is having fun then you just play another game but if you're nearing dinner time or whatever the game can wrap up pretty quickly.- I don't think it matters how many people play, it's basically just a card game. 2 players wouldn't work but we've had 8 or 10 playing lots of times- the content is clean, there's nothing vulgar, nothing controversialSo, if you ever have company I would for sure keep this game on hand. You can't go wrong. 5
