Customer Reviews

20 months of abuse later...it's pristine! In response to another review saying this piece wouldn't be of the same quality as original Thomas parts...actually, I think this is much better quality. It's actually solid hardwood, not compressed particle board material, and it's a wonderful, unique piece.I'm very glad I bought it over 1.5 years ago as it remains one of my train-obsessed, now 3-year-old son's favorite pieces. When younger, he spent hours learning to slide the 3 components together, and switching the pieces around and learning why they wouldn't work that way (though he discovered you can build a nice little ski jump with them...).I actually arrived (or, clicked) here again planning to buy a second one for his preschool classroom, as he loves to play with trains at school, too, so I keep a second set there for my son and his friends/classmates to play with. Realized I had never given a recommendation for the "stone bridge" so...here you go!Highly recommended. Has been used and abused by my son and his friends for 20 months and appears to be indestructible, 5I almost love it...I bought this set for my 3 year old grandson, who's into the Thomas Wooden Railway. He loved the appearance and once I set up the tracks to go over and then loop around and go under the bridge (in a figure eight arrangement), he asked me repeatedly to set it up "over and under" again and again during our visit. He even specifically asked for the "stone bridge track" at play time. The only negative, which dropped my rating by one star, is that the bridge slope is rather steep and the magnetically coupled train cars had some difficulty crossing the bridge without near catastrophe (i.e. derailment) unless I pulled them very, very, very slowly across the bridge. A more gradual slope would rate a full five stars.Would I recommend it? Yes, but with a reservation, as described above. When my grandson pulls the train over the bridge, it crashes off the track, but at 3, he doesn't really care (he also derails it going around curves).Would I buy it again (or a second one)? Sure. 4Good looking and stableWe are very pleased with this addition to our track. Not only can you build an interesting over/under track, but the thing we like best is that it is so stable. We have a similar stone bridge that has a span in between the sides, and that one is also very nice, but our two-year-old always dislodges the span. This one has a much more stable design, as the span is one solid piece, with two solid end pieces.Clearance: With a track going under the bridge, all of the standard-height Thomas trains will clear just fine. (Clearance from the top of the track to the top of the opening is 2" -- not counting the grooves for the wheels.) 5Nice bridge -- works with Brio and off-brand tracksI bought this bridge to go with my child's other wooden train tracks, some of which are genuine Brio and some of which are knock-offs. This bridge fits fine with all the tracks. It is tall enough that even the taller Brio train cars can pass underneath if you build the track to go through the tunnel. Because the pieces are big and chunky, and painted with an easy-to-identify pattern, this is one of the easier wooden railway components for very young children to use. My two-year-old's motor skills are not yet developed enough to build a bridge or overpass using the curved tracks and risers that you see in some wooden track sets, but he can assemble this one with no problem. Personally, I don't love the fake stone design... find the genuine Brio version of this bridge (which is unpainted) to be a bit more attractive. However, the painted design does help small kids to spot the correct pieces. And, of course, this version costs much less than the Brio one. 4Too steepWhile this looks very nice, some of our trains won't fit under it because it's a little too low. The grade is also very steep, so it's hard for the train to stay together as it goes up. What is really needed is a bridge that is wider than this so there can be a little more clearance and the grade not as steep. 2Has to be just right for Thomas trains to fit. This is one of the best bridges out there. The reason for the 1 star is because most of the Thomas trains barely fit through the tunnel. If the tracks aren't just right they will get stuck trying to through. They could easily widen and raise the opening to help compensate for this.Being that the whole bridge is solid makes it very nice for setting it up and keeping it standing, especially when younger children are playing with it. 4Pretty much what I expectedPretty much what I expected. Could not find any info on size/length. It is about 13" in length and about 2/12" high at the center. It's wood, nice and sturdy and most likely durable. 4overpass clearance too lowNot tall enough to let most trains under the bridge. Tried to buy this to replace the delicately perched bridge from the Fisher-Price Thomas the Train Wooden Railway Coal Hopper Figure 8 Set, because my 2-year-old kept knocking it over, but this was worse. With track running through the underpass, there isn't enough clearance to let a train drive through. I wound up using super glue on the one that came with the set, instead. 1Not as nice as a Thomas bridgeWe have 2 bridges for our train set, this one and one that is an actual Thomas brand. It's a little short, but we don't have issues with the trains my daughter has getting stuck under it like I've seen others say. Her trains seem to derail more going over the top of it than they do with her Thomas bridge. I do a new layout for her every few days, I often leave this piece out, though we always use the Thomas one. 3Pretty close to perfectThis arrived very quickly, super easy to put together, and STAYS together! I bought this because unlike many other bridges, there is not a connector at the very top, it's seamless and makes it so easy to play with. My only CON is that the tunnel height is not necessarily tall for all his engines, so we've just set those aside, he has plenty that do fit, but like many other reviews, you do have to go more in the center of the tunnel just to make sure they squeeze through. 4
