    Read, learn, ask, read more and make a plan...For anyone not familiar with todays great many options for model railroading and looking to take the 1st step, please take it slowly.Unless you only want a small or temporary layout, the greatest favor you can do yourself is to use every means available to completely educate yourself of all things model railroad. It is a fantastic hobby, but the technology available today is a different world from a few years ago and you can quickly get overwhelmed and make regrettable or unnecessary purchases if you don't have a detailed plan with goals in mind. I began purchasing equipment and stock 4 mos ago for a large railroad layout and this starter cab was among my 1st purchases.I have no regrets buying this cab, but I did make mistakes purchasing other equipment instead of the options that would have worked better with the NCE products for my particular layout and I would have saved a great deal of money and frustration had I been more patient and taken the time to learn how to plan for the operations I desired on my railroad. Modeling is a fantastic hobby and one that can offer a lifetime of enjoyment, especially today. Take your time and enjoy the ride!Cheers! 5I really like this unit so far. I've only scratched the surface of what all this controller can do, so I think it will satisfy my needs for quite some time to come. 4Simple and easy to use. Ran a loco in 5 min!My second DCC system and ran a loco in 5 min. Simple, easy to hook up and plenty of support. Run my N scale layout w 2 locos great. My old digitrax took me days to figure out. This is a keeper! 5This is a great way to control my model railroadThis is a great way to control my model railroad. My layout had operated well on DC for years but the conversion to DCC was relatively simple. The NCE Powercab is a great starter set, but does take a little "getting used to" in terms of programming the locomotives. As with many things today, once you have used it a while and get familiar with what it does and how to use it, you won't go back to the old systems. 5AwesomeI am new to DCC, and I'm really impressed with how intuitive this system is to use. It's just what I was looking for for my 2.5' x 4' N scale layout. Sure - it's a bit weird that you have to plug the controller into the left side of the included panel, but it's not hard to remember once you know that. I look forward to using this thing for many years to come. My only gripe would be that the throttle wheel feels quite cheap and fragile. 4Ideal DCC Starter SetIdeal DCC starter set. This has everything you need to power and control your layout. It is also very easy to upgrade as your needs change. It is very easy to use as well. If you get this you should also get a third party circuit protector for each power district on your layout. I am using the PSX units from DCC Specialties. 5exceptional dcc starter kitNEC power cab is a must for model railroads. Had the system out of the box and set up with my dcc onboard locomotive programmed in thirty minutes. Have had no problems with the system recognizing several different manufacturers dcc decoders. I have converted four dc locomotives to dcc and put a decoder in two dcc ready locomotives all without single problem with the power cab operating any of them. One of the best buys I have made on Amazon. 5A very nice way to get into DCC, NCE Power CabI thought going from DC to DCC would be a daunting task given this "new" digital square wave technology.Then after a lot of research, thinking that it would be an interesting project to convert, into the available "starter" sets offered by NCE, Digitrax, MRC and Bachmann I decided that the NCE Power Cab was the way to go. I liked that the Power Cab control was hand-held. After receiving the Power Cab I set-up a "program track" with which to program DCC locomotives. I have to admit the Power Cab is easy and fun to use. The instruction book is well written and easy to follow.If you want to get involved with DCC, I recommend that you do your research on the DCC controllers. I did like, and considered, the Digitrax Zepher, but it was not hand-held, and after reading the many reviews comparing NCE and Digitrax, the consensus was that the NCE was easier to understand and use. So, yes, the NCE is easy to understand and use, but I have not tried the others, so this is a one-sided review, however, based on my "new" experience with the NCE Power Cab, I do recommend that you take a serious look at the Power Cab, I think that you would be pleasantly surprised at how easy and fun to operate. 5My husband is very disappointed as this got very good reviewsPurchased this item for my husband to use with N scale trains. It initially worked as advertised,however after a few days, item ceased to function. Returned and purchased a replacement and the second controller would not hold memory, could not add another locomotive. The second controller is being returned and we will not be purchasing this controller again. My husband is very disappointed as this got very good reviews. 110/10!! Would Recommend!This throttle is amazing! Not only can it program all the CV codes and decoders, but it really lets you dial in each spec exactly where you like it. Operation is smooth and easy to understand. The quick preset buttons for Horn, Bell, and Lights are perfectly placed and very convenient! I got this to reprogram my Bachmann starter train set (HO) and I now have trains that feel like hobby grade instead of toy grade. THANK YOU NCE!!! 5
