Customer Reviews

My daughter is in kindergarten. She has apraxia and ...My daughter is in kindergarten. She has apraxia and is behind in her letter sounds and recognition.I home school her but she goes to school two days a week for speech therapy and reading and math. I have a hard time getting her to focus when doing her beginning reading and letter recognition but she loves this game it is helping alot. 5Great learning tool/game!Smaller then I thought. I thought this would be the size of a board game. However with that being said it works great for my three year old who loves to play games/board games. This was perfect to work his brain and keep him excited! 4Makes Learning Fun!My 4 year old grandaughter can easily remember the lyrics to every Disney song ever produced, but couldn't identify all the letters in the alphabet. I bought her magnetic letters (yawn) and flash cards (bigger yawn). Put the information in game form and it becomes fun! She asks to play this game with all of us and quickly learned to identify each letter of the alphabet. It really is true that if you make learning fun, children painlessly remember information. 5Great for teaching letters to reluctant learnersMy daughter is 2 1/2, and she has always been resistant to learning the alphabet. She doesn t like making guesses about what a letter is, and she often won t even tell us the letter names that she does know. We have letter toys everywhere in our house, but I hadn t really found anything that would be engaging for her and also help her learn the letters. She s old enough now to start learning how to play some games, and I came across this set. I m so glad I bought it for her! My husband and I play with her where one of us is on her team. We ve only had the game for two days, but already she is improving at her ability to retain the letter names because now she has motivation to practice them while we play. This is seriously the only letter toy we have (out of many) that I have seen any real results with for my child. The cards themselves are very nice and thick, laminated. Some of the reviews were confusing, but these cards come with 2 identical cards of each letter with an uppercase letter and a picture in the center of the card, then the uppercase and lowercase letter together in the corner of the card, too. I considered another set before buying these where one card had uppercase and one lowercase letters on the matching cards. I m really glad I went with these instead because at my daughter s age I think it is important that the cards match and are simple for her.The fact that there are only two of each card (vs. 4 in some sets) has not been an issue at all. The game is really fun! I don t know if it would be a problem if you played with more than two players, though. 5Fantastic colorful large heavy weight cards.Very please with the quality. Purchased to assist in letter recognition for a four year old whom can recite the alphabet but doesn't recognize all the letters. The cards are a colorful heavy weight glossy finish measuring approx. 3 1/4 x 4 1/2". Each card is bright and colorful with an upper and lower case letter on the top left, a large upper case letter in the middle of the card with a picture representing a word that starts with that letter. For the children that are unable to identify the letter to ask someone else if they have that card, they are able to identify the picture. For example the letter H has a picture of a house, so our child ask "do you have a house" and we are able to reply with a yes/no we do/do not have an "H" for house. The box that contains the cards is designed more like a board game box that the lid lifts of instead of a deck of cards box which tears easily when pulling cards out. Well worth our cost to purchase and be able to provide a fun educational way for letter recognition without our child even realizing it's more than just a game. 5A game for more than your pre-schoolerWe have been playing Go Fish for a week now. She loves the game and it does a great job reinforcing letter recognition. Additionally, it is fun. This is NOT one of those educational games I have to drag myself over to play with her.Added bonus: We are a card playing family but all the card games we usually play are too advanced for her to join in. This gives her a chance to learn how to play strategically and how to hold & deal cards. 5Best for kids that don t respond to traditional teaching stylesMy kindergartener was having trouble identifying her alphabet and was not responding to the typical flash card quiz teaching style. She loved playing this, got very engaged in learning her letters. Shortly after using these to do (play) her home work she got all the letters down. I highly recommend this for those children that do not respond to traditional teaching styles. Learning should be fun and it was with these! 5Serif font used makes the letters confusing for a child learning lettersThis would be a solid 5 star game if the letters at the top of the card were in a sans serif font. Some of the letters, like L, my child knows but she says "that's not L. L doesn't have a little line going up at the end like that". I bought this game specifically to help my child learn her letters and the font at the top of the cards messes her up. I covered the letters with stickers. It won't hold up long like this but at least it isn't confusing my daughter this way. 3Absolutely worth the cost. Highly Recommended. We have purchased 3 sets of this now - one for us and 2 sets for cousins. Totally worth the cost - this game will help with letter recognition in a very fun way and can even be played with toddlers before they are ready to do specific letters by using the animals and objects pictured. It is then easy to transition to the letters from the objects for them and is great prep work for JK and Preschool. My 3 year old and 5 year old could play together while I watched. The cards are glossy and thick - they do not bend easily and are full color. Perfect for keeping their attention. 5Fun way to learn letter recognitionMy kids (age 4&5) love playing this but they struggle holding the large cards in their small hands. Quality is excellent and it really helps with letter recognition. I also wish the cards were printed like a playing card, that way whatever direction my kids held the cards they would be able to read the letter. (Who knows, maybe that would be confusing!) They drop their cards every time they try to flip a card up right. I also think this card set is priced a bit high. You can see the card size in comparison to my adult hand. 3
