Customer Reviews

This is our family's favorite game to play all togetherThis is our family's favorite game to play all together, and we are 2.5, 5, 36 and 37. There are three levels to play, which makes this work well for families with children of multiple ages (and is promising for long-term use). We always play on the simplest level as we have a 2.5 year old. Players spin a spinner and then find a bug of the corresponding color, number, or shape to put under the "rug" (game board). Players work together to try to beat the stink bugs who come out once you run out of bugs. My 2.5 year old loves the concept of stink bugs and laughs so hard when it's time for a stink bug to come on the board! This is a collaborative game, so everybody wins or loses together. That really helps us keep the fun in family game night and minimizes fighting. My 5 year old still sometimes gets upset when we lose, but since the whole family loses, the adults can model well how to manage. Each time you play (on Level 1), you roll a die to find out if you will match the bugs to the spinner based on color, number, or shape. That keeps things from getting repetitive for us adults, and helps the kids to recognize multiple attributes. There's really a lot of nice math learning here! My 2.5 year old has been able to play this for a few months - he has trouble when we play for numbers, but it's a great way for him to learn. The bugs are not tiny and pretty easy to keep track of, though I wish the board were magnetic as my kids bump into a lot requiring some reorganizing. The spinner is part of the board, and the pieces are all pretty sturdy and well made. Grown ups can use a little strategy here. We win about 50-60% of the time. We have a lot of Peaceable Kingdom Games (Bunny Bedtime, Where's Bear?, Monkey Around, Count Your Chickens, Feed the Woozle, and Stone Soup) and this is by far the favorite for both the kids and the adults in our family. I can't recommend it enough. 5A Bit Boring for Family Game NightWe have quite a few toddler board games, and this one does not get played too much by my 2-year-old (who is younger than the recommended age) and 4-year-old. Our family prefers a bit more excitement, and we'd recommend games with more dynamic gameplay (Eye Found It), manipulatives (First Orchard), action game pieces (Bunny Hop) or physical activity (Pancake Pile-Up). I might place it in a quiet setting like a library or classroom, but would not select it for family game night. 3This game is cute and fun. I had never heard of Peaceable Kingdom before ...This game is cute and fun. I had never heard of Peaceable Kingdom before seeing this game and now I own /most/ of the games that they manufacture! (Even the Go Fish one and there are bazillions of those versions!) This game is cute. I have a /just/ turned 3 year old (as in she just turned 3 a week ago.) She has a little bit of trouble understanding the game concept and had a very wavering attention span (i.e. she started feeding the bugs to her talking Elmo--what the...), but I could tell that it wouldn't take much for her to get totally into this game. My only complaint is the arrow is way too busy for 3 year olds. I would ask, what color/shape is the arrow pointing to? And she would stare at me in a confused way. (it points to lots of things at once) I think I may put little white-out dots on the arrow to make visual tracking easier--since both sides of the arrow look kind of similar, but for now I think I'll just point at it and tell her :pThe quality of the game itself is amazing. When I pulled it out of the box I exclaimed to my husband Jeff that the game was seriously heavy duty. The pieces aren't cardboard they are a very light weight "green" material. Whatever the case, it can apparently withstand some licking from my 2 year old. The box is hard enough that it feels like a small adult could probably stand on the lid without completely crunching it into smithereens. (Don't try this, but seriously maybe a small elephant even!) And the spinner! Wow. I teach 3rd grade and am constantly annoyed by poorly made spinners that come with older kid games, this spinner is amazing! it actually WORKS like a spinner is supposed to. Even a small nudge will send it around--and it doesn't constantly get stuck on the same color/shape over and over. (yay for games that work.) Also, the bugs are totally cute! :)Review Summary: Great game, might be too old for a /just/ turned 3 year old--but they'll still have fun with the bugs, quality of the pieces are seriously top notch! 5Customizable for developmental stageThe idea behind this game is certainly a winner in my book, much like an Easter egg hunt with one central basket everyone fills rather than mass My 3 yr old grandchild likes the this game. It held his attention for the duration of the game. I was hoping it would engage my 5 yr old grandchild as well, but the first level of play that held his brother attention was too simple. The 5yr old was ready for it to be over way before the end of the game. So I recommend this game be played with children of the same developmental stage. Read the rules for all the variations and perhaps start at a more challenging level for 5 yr and up. 5Highly, highly recommend this game, especially for those with special needs kiddos!!My 4 year old son with autism and developmental delays absolutely loves this game!! He requests to play it multiple times a day. I love that any person playing can adapt the game to their needs or skill level so it great for many different aged and capable kids to play together at once. I highly, highly recommend this game to any person and especially for special needs interventionists. 5Fun Family GameWe like this game. It's great for the kids and is a fun number, shape and color learning/reinforcement game. Our 2 year old doesn't always get it, but it's simple enough she can play along. Our 3 year old can play easily and likes it quite a bit. But it's complex enough that our 6 year old doesn't mind playing right along. The games themselves go pretty quick (~15 mins) and we can play once sometimes twice before they loose interest. And everyone loves when the stink bugs come out. Lots of laughing and giggling for family fun time. 5Love this game for collaborative play and learningMy 2 and 4 year olds love this game. The beginners version of play is good for my 2 year old as it is reinforcing her learning of her colors and size variations, and the higher-level versions are great for my son. In both versions, it teaches collaborative play, and allows my son to assist his little sister in finding the answers--which at this age, is a necessary lesson! We have plenty of competitive games :) 5Wonderful Game That Grows With the ChildWe first played this game at a family members house. They have a four year old girl and we have a three year old boy. Both kids loved this game so much that even while the kids were still playing, I was on Amazon on my phone buying one for us to have at home. Once we got our copy, we played again, this time with my husband. He looked up at me during the game and said how much he liked it and how much less annoying it was than other toddler board games. High praise indeed! Here is what I really like about this game:1) It's collaborative rather than competitive. Everyone is playing together to get all the bugs under the rug before all three stink bugs are released. So either everyone wins or everyone loses. This is nice, especially for younger players who have a hard time understanding someone else winning.2) It's cute and just interactive enough to be fun without being too much hassle. Each turn, a player has to select a bug that fits the criteria dictated by their spin. They get to look over all the bugs, pick the one they like, and then slide it under the rug/gameboard. My kid really gets a kick out of sliding his bug under the rug.3) Not every game is the same. There is a starter die that is used to determine what game play is going to be based on for that game: colors, shapes, or numbers. So one game you'll be picking bugs based on color, then another on shape. It helps keep things interesting.4) The game grows with the age of the players. The game actually has 3 different sets of rules, based on the age of the players. So we're they're young the game is easier, but as they grow new rules are added making things more complicated. For example, at the easiest level, the bugs are picked based on one criteria only (color or shape or number). But on the harder levels, the bugs are picked based on multiple criteria at once (color and shape, or color and number, or color and number and shape). This means that the game has more longevity than other simple board games that younger kids play.We love this game! So much in fact, that it's probably going to be my go to gift for all the 4yo birthday parties we'll be going to this year. 5Fun and cute.Such a fun little game for young ones! Way better than the typical candy land that is seemingly endless and repetitive. This one offers several different types of play, all while learning shapes, colors, number, and big vs. little. The quality is top notch and pleasant to look at. I have played it about 10 times with my four year old and am not sick of it yet so that's saying something! 5EXCELLENT game!!!This was our FAVORITE preschool game! We had Hoot Owl Hoot, Sneaky Snacky Squirrel and several others, but we loved Snug as a Bug the best! It helps to teach colors, shapes and counting, but it s more than that. It can be as complex as your little one is ready for- can she look for one that s red AND has big eyes? Can she figure out how to read the spinner? And there s strategy, too- she needs to pick a blue bug. There are several. Would it be a poor idea to pick the one that happens to be the last bug on the board with triangles, or leave it in case she needs a triangle bug later? This is really an excellent game. 5
