Customer Reviews

The "bare" minimumMy wife, cat woman, lost her elderly cat recently and has really missed "the Queen." When I brought this in, she immediately said "It's dead! Or on life support!" then promptly named it "Ned". We know it's not real, that's obvious, but in a very small way it is a pet. Doesn't sit well on your lap. Doesn't do much, but doesn't make demands either. And it's cheap to maintain, unlike the hundreds per month spent on a sick cat. A real one is now beyond affordability anymore. At least my wife doesn't tell me she wants another cat as often anymore. The dog totally ignores it.It really needs more and longer fur to be more realistic. It's almost balding. I could give it 5 stars if the sparse fur were fixed. Too bad there is not an upgrade. Really, how much extra could that cost? But it's running fine with no problems. No more cat hair everywhere. Best of all, no stinky cat box. 3Looks like a real cat!I gave this to a friend for her 80th birthday. She had longed for a cat, but due to her living situation was unable to have one. She almost cried when she saw it. On first glance, this appears to be a real cat. A close look at the face reveals it to be an imitation kitty, but cozy nonetheless. It comes with a brush. On opening the box, the fur will appear a bit matted down. Brushing the fur, though, will bring it to a very natural appearance. It looks like a real cat! 5My cat was missing 1/2 its whiskersI was not nearly as impressed as other reviewers by the orange tabby. The fur wasn't very soft, half of the whiskers were missing, and the cat was covered in glue-gun threads. All said, I think the manufacturing quality is pretty poor on this and the fact that you can't easily shut off the purring (sounds like car idling) function meant this was inevitably going to be returned. 2Arrived DAMAGEDThis kitten arrived DAMAGED. In TWO areas the fur appears to be CUT and feels CRUSTY. Also, the kitten s side is completely sunk inward. Additionally, the cute cardboard pet carrier is torn on one side. This arrived on Dec 13th, but I did not inspect it until wrapping it tonight (Dec 21st) for my daughter s Christmas gift. I also purchased the black and white kitten for my other daughter, and it looks fine -smooth, soft fur and its side appears normal. I am so disappointed with the orange tabby kitten. The entire purpose of this type of toy is to sit and pet its SOFT fur, not CRUSTY fur. 1Souce of comfort...This was birthday gift for someone needing a visual and tactile source for calming, de-stressing. So far, it has proven beneficial in that regard for an individual who can't have a real pet for a variety of reasons.Item received is different than image shown on product page (or anywhere else online). Each manufacturer seems to be producing their own version. Chemical smell could've proven an issue but what little there was, initially, dissipated by the next day.The body, each paw, the head...all have different fur...with the face being the only area with truly soft fur. A bit disappointing given how far technology has come in reproducing authentic-feeling furs. Received product is bit of 'mutt' in that it has an orange-striped body, whereas the head is more gold and tan, all but one whisker is missing on one side of the face and there was no mouth, or illusion of one (gray and pink pencils to the rescue). Also, a poor join of head to body so some rough ridges under the fur in that area. The 'breathing' is rather mesmerizing and, as a former cat owner, the movement is quite authentic. The mechanical apparatus causes a sound which closely mimics snoring but never like purring (and so subtle as to only be heard when zero ambient noise). (The absence of on/off button hasn't proven to be an issue given the longevity of the battery.)Mindful that this kitten will never snuggle or jump up to play and run around the room, it is a toy which is serving its intended purpose and is very cute. Nevertheless, it's certainly not meant to replace the real thing, and therefore, for some, the novelty of it may wax, wane.Having said all that, given sufficient negatives to cause some to question why it wasn't returned, the decision was made to keep it as representative of the uniqueness in each of us, the pleasure it has given the recipient... and its benefits outweigh the manufacturer's deficiencies. (Little white blanket, in attached image, not included in purchase.) 4Lovely.I purchased this for my mom as a Christmas gift after our kitty passed away at the age of 17. It s a very decent likeness. Our kitty (Tiggy) loved it when we got our Christmas tree every year, and she d spend the entire Christmas season curled up beneath it. Thanks to this item, in some small way, it s like we can always have her there with us. My mom absolutely loves it and our little robotic Tiggy has now become a staple of our Christmas decor. As for the item itself, what you see is what you get. It s in a fixed position and when turned on, the only functionality is a very true-to-life breathing motion. The abdomen area slightly inflates and deflates just like a real cat sleeping. There s no sound. It just is what it is.For my specific purposes, I was delighted to find that something like this existed. It s a nice way of keeping the spirit of Tiggy in the house (not in a ghostly way) for my mom who has a hard time moving on after the death of a pet. 5Perfect for dementia patientsMy Mom always had a cat. But, now she's had dementia for 3 years. She lives in a Memory Care Assisted Living Center. We gave her this kitty for Christmas. She LOVES it. She named the cat Mittens. The cat simulates breathing and quiet purring. It takes 1 D cell battery that lasts about 3 months. It comes with the battery. It is in a cat bed and comes with a brush for Mom to groom her kitty. It also comes in an adorable cardboard adoption box, complete with an adoption certificate. Mom claims the kitty runs around her room all night long (um, no) and so, then sleeps all day long. It's adorable, and Mom is happy. That's all that matters. 5Toys aren't always just for kidsThis is a silly toy that only some people will appreciate. After seeing this "breathing" kitty on the reception counter at a vet's office, my elderly father longed for one. It now provides a little "life" in an assisted living apartment in which he is unable to have real pets. Because it looks somewhat realistic (compared to other stuffed animals) and does appear to breathe in a natural manner, it has become a conversation piece among other residents, one of whom has already ordered her own kitty. Although most children would become quickly bored with this motionless toy, it is providing comfort and enjoyment to my father. 4battery sleeping kitty UPDATED REVIEW BELOW...I have to say this little kitten is just simply adorable. She is silent until you get your ear directly over her... then it sounds like really purring. She is delightful. Even my husband thought she was adorable. I have serious pet allergies and this seemed like a little comfort without the allergic reaction. I am surprised at how realistic it looks and feels. Now, you won't really want to "cuddle" her.... she is a bit stiff, particularly on the bottom. But you could hold her in your lap and pat her. She comes with a lovely pet bed, a wooden backed brush and the cardboard box she comes in converts into a pet carrier if you'd like. There is an adoption form to fill out if you'd like. She takes 1 D cell battery... and yes, the battery box is screwed down. There is a slight chemically odor when you first open it.. but it dissipates quickly. Didn't notice within a few hours of opening. I included a video so you can get a better feel for it. I feel like it was worth every penny! I never hesitate to update my reviews should new info seem useful and I never shy away from responding to comments and/or questions. Further, I do NOT receive compensation of ANY kind. My purchases are VERIFIED, 100% full price, independent purchases. You can trust that my reviews are 100% independent and are my opinion. Which may differ from yours. Happy shopping to all!UPDATE: 8/29/2016..... While I still like my little kitty, she has developed a "mechanical sound" while "breathing".... too bad.... wishing wishing wishing the quality was better. When I get annoyed by the sound I have to take the battery out... as others have said, an on and off switch would be preferable than screw down battery case. Just a little disappointed.UPDATE: 10/30/2016.... I have had this little kitty for a couple of months and she is still going - no battery changes yet. The "mechanical sound" sort of comes and goes... My 5 year old grandson is really enamored of her. He brushes her and coos to her that she is "sooo cute." So. That's worth it, right? It is oddly soothing to have it just sitting there... "breathing." I do wish there was an on and off switch and the quality would allow quiet, non mechanical sounds...and maybe softer so you could actually snuggle it. 3Highly recommend!I am so very pleased with this! I bought the King Charles Cavalier and the orange tabby. I am a nurse who works long term care and we have many residents with Alzheimer's/dementia and these were a great success with improving moods and behaviors! The residents just absolutely loved these and many thought they were real! They are very soft to the touch and the details were very realistic. The breathing action adds that extra touch of realism. Great product for a great price! It comes with a cardboard carrier, a bed, a brush and an adoption certificate. The animal has a collar with a tag. There is not a shut off switch though. There are small imperfections where the seams come together on the body, but it is minor. I would definitely recommend these! 5
