Customer Reviews

Worth the price of admissionDisclaimer: This is a team game (the game is your enemy, not each other). Your enjoyment will hinge on the people you play with and/or you being ok with "losing"...because it will happen. (*Someone reading this: "Challenge accepted!")Pros: It can be quick, fun even with two people, easy to learn and its challenging (you can adjust difficulty and not "completing" the game does not mean you "lose")Cons: You win through solid team communication and collaboration (that could be an issue for some people, not one if you have a good group of people), very easy to cheat (whether you "meant" to or not)Summary: Buy this game. Worth the price of admission and a lot of fun comes in a small box (which is great if you don't have a lot of room) 5Was not fun.I am an Electrical Engineer by trade, love solving puzzles, and thought after reading all of the reviews that this would be an amazing game. My friend circle plays just about every board game in existence, and when I brought this to the table, it was a bit dull. There's no real "AH! Awesome!" moment. It's mundanely setting down cards, like in gin rummy, while the "point" system is worthless. I would not recommend this game to anyone outside of a pyrotechnician. 1This has quickly become the top choice game for me and my friendsThis game is SO much fun and VERY addictive. Whenever I travel to visit friends I bring a Hanabi copy as a small gift and it was always a success, everyone loves it. What's great about it:1. The rules are simple and take under 5 minutes to explain, but the game is indefinitely complicated and challenging, with always more communication strategies to try and more difficult versions to beat.2. It is refreshingly different than most games: First, you hold your cards backwards so that all the players except yourselves know which cards you hold in your hand. Second, the game is cooperative, which means the players are not competing against each other, but rather they all either win or lose together. And it is far from easy to win.3. It is small and be carried easily. Awesome for camping trips. All in all, great game to enhance group communication and dynamics, and very enjoyable. 5much more fun than it sounds from the descriptionwasn't expecting much based on the description, but was completely surprised by how much I love this game once we tried it. am just getting into casual gaming, and I prefer co-ops, so was looking at both this and The Game as fairly small and cheap additions to get the initial collection built up. this was the very first game our group of 3 new gamers played together, and we played it slow and serious at first, and there was a ton of tension and anxiety (in a good way). eventually, there was a little bit of "cheating" that leaked in, via vocal pauses, eye contact, facial expressions, voice inflection, etc. which always causes the table to burst into laughter. in addition, there are often times when 2 people know exactly what the 3rd person should do, and seemingly enough hints have been given already, but they still aren't making the play, so you struggle with trying to figure out a way to nudge them without cheating (which also usually ends up in lots of laughter). that combination of tension, laughter, and shared struggle makes this the most reached for and enjoyed game in the group collection still.board game arena has an online version you can try free, which is excellent, but leaves clues marked on cards permanently, so you don't have to remember (or hope that other people still remember) them, which makes the game a lighter and faster play. 5Favorite Cooperative GameWhile the game is simple, it is probably my favorite cooperative game. Because you don't know your own hand, it isn't possible for a single person to dominate strategy for your team. In addition, the game is small, the size of a card deck, and the rules are not difficult to pick up. It works with 2-5 people and I've found most people find the game to offer enough challenge that they want to keep playing and get a perfect score. I also enjoy that the game's instructions are laid back, saying use your own communication rules, but here is what a strict rule would be (only hints allowed). You'll be surprised by how much thought has to be put into hints, and what can be inferred from the hints you are given! There's a nice amount of subtlety to the game, and it offers some ways to add more difficulty with the multi-color cards included. I really recommend this game. I haven't found a person who didn't like the game yet, and it's good for a couple of play-throughs each time you take it out. 5Really unique and fun little gameDecent for 2; great for 3+. Haven't even tried variation with the extra set of cards yet; so I think there is a lot of replayability here.Unique co-op game where you cannot look at your own hand and other player have to give you hints so you know what's in your hand and what to play. It's up to you how lenient you want to be with "hint giving" to other players. The rules don't mention whether or not you should/shouldn't change the sound of your voice while giving hints - which can make a HUGE difference (eg "This card is a 3!!!" while sounding stoked in hopes that they play it on their next turn since there is a 2 out; vs "This card is a 3" in a bummer-sounding voice because it's a duplicate 3 of one that's already out).Recommended. Have fun! 5Fun, easy to learn, but challenging, cooperative card game for 2-5 players.Hanabi is a fun, cooperative card game that requires a mix of memorization and deduction. The game play is almost like solitaire in that the main goal is to put all of the suits in numerical order. The twist is that players can't see the cards in their own hand and must give clues to each other to figure out which card to play and when. Oh, and 3 wrong moves means you've run out of chances and the game ends early! While is can be played with up to 5 players, the game is still enjoyable and challenging with just 2 players. My husband and I often play it as a 2-player game. While it is easy to learn and play, it isn't necessarily easy to win. The max score is 25 and the lowest 0. We usually score between 16-20. The game keeps us coming back for more because we want to beat our personal score! Some reviewers have mentioned that they prefer the tile version because of the nicer pieces. However, I think the card version is perfectly fine. The cards seem durable and of good quality material. All of the cards and pieces fit neatly in a 5in x 4in x 1in cardboard box that can easily fit in a purse or backpack. 5Simple, collaborative strategy gameA really simple and fun cooperative card game!Takes a round or two to master the skill of "clueing" others, but once you get it, it's great. Unfortunately, it's really easy to accidentally cheat (for example, I've said "I know this is a Red 3" and my teammates went "uhhhh... are you sure?" So suddenly k wasn't sure.).I suggest having a teammate draw a card to place in your hand so you don't mess up with the usual "draw and look" reflex.I'm also a big fan of asking people to shut their ears while we collaborate.Only downside to this game... white/yellow and green/blue can be hard to distinguish in bad light. The design of the firework on the card helps to reduce this issue, but it's imperfect when cards are splayed so you can't see the firework! I played a game where all 3 of my teammates agreed my card was yellow... and when I played it, it was white. So, be careful! 5Great family gameWonderful game. Our sons are 13, 10, and 8. I bought this based on the few reviews here and glad I did. We've only played 3 times since opening last week but surprisingly after the first two times the kids were calling for this instead of Munchkin, Carcasonne, Forbidden Island, Castle Panic, Zombie Dice, Resistance (actually Avalon) etc... We don't play Monopoly, Sorry, or Life anymore after we discovered eurogames. I suspect this game will get chosen less in a couple weeks and get added to the regular rotation soon. Excellent addition to our collection.I like cooperative games but the oldest prefers the destroy opponent games, but he was the one who called for this last night. It has a unique game mechanic that I really like...you turn your cards around so everybody can see your cards but you can't see your own. This adds to the dimension of the game in simple things like holding your cards up so others can see, and picking up cards while suppressing the surprisingly strong instinct to look at the card as you draw. I keep having to remind the little one not to look at their cards. It keeps the kids and adults on their toes as you have to think about the choices and opportunity costs of the three action options you have each turn...giving information vs playing a card, vs discarding. Another thing I really like is unlike the other two cooperative games, this isn't simply you win or you lose as a team, but you have a measure of how good you did by adding up your score and the instruction book has a range of how you did while shooting for the perfect score. Once we get there, we'll add in the rainbow cards (included) for added expansion.I don't bother with age recommendations anymore as I find my 8 yr old can play nearly every game we have including Avalon which is considered strong social skill game, but its amazing how quickly he picked it up and knows a few tricks for that game. But theme is important and Munchkin is his favorite. Next up, Love Letters and Settlers of Catan. If you already have a collection, get it now. If you are building a collection, I'd get this early, but not first. Munchkin (if you have kids), Carcassonne, this game, then Forbidden Island is a good starting set. And go watch Table Top series on youtube.com. 5Collaborative game will have you hooked on trying to read between the linesThis little game packs a big punch. It is a collaborative card game where players give clues to play cards together into piles. It is basically like playing team solitaire but you can't see your own cards and you can only give clues about one characteristic at a time. You might give a player a clue that he has 2 red cards, or another player that she has a 5. What to tell whom and when becomes very complex strategy. Great team building game.Really develops communication skills and deductive reasoning.Has us hooked as we have played many many times in the last years always trying to get a perfect game. 5
