Customer Reviews

A blast from my distant past. What a trip down memory lane. On my seventh birthday i received this kit as a gift. I don't remember if i built it, or my father built it because it was so long ago. I remember it wasn't painted, because my parents didn't trust me with paints. Now many years later I decided to build this kit again, so I ordered it from Amazon. The hull is one piece, which I prefer because there is no seam line running down the hull of the ship to sand and fill. Careful fitting of the deck to the hull is necessary in order to get a perfect fit. After that I masked off the hull to paint the bottom of the hull red. I used a sharpie marker to draw the waterline because I didn't think I could paint in a straight line. After that the model went together pretty quickly. This was Revell's first scale model, and it still holds up after all these years. Recommended to all modelers trying to relive their past. 4Rather mediocre quality shipI was rather disappointed about the quality of the plastic used for this ship. There are a lot of defects in the molding of the part runners. Some parts also didn't fit on well. This is most notably with the main gun turrets, anti air turrets and secondary turrets. The slot in which you put the small turrets in is often too large, meaning the anti air and secondary turrets will fly off without glue (which makes it unable to traverse) while some slots are too small, requiring you to bore it out with something. The main battery turrets also had difficulty fitting in due to the low quality of the plastic of the molds, and the defects in the mold, meaning I had to trim down the turret mountings and gun barrels to actually get them to fit. One thing that was really annoying was how about half of the superstructure and the deck were all one-piece, meaning it is difficult to color in the deck without accidently overflowing onto the superstructure. The hull is also rather inaccurate, as the underwater part is way too small for the ship. The completed result looks fine. Overall, I wouldn't recommend this set. Get a Tamiya USS Missouri kit or something instead as that will have higher detail than this. 2Great battleship to build and great customer service to matchI bought this product awhile ago and never left a review for it. Anyways, I love this battleship. It was super fun to build! My box actually had a problem though, it was missing a piece. Although I can say that it was probably a manufacturing issue, MMD Holdings was kind enough to send me a replacement! Now that is great customer service! 5Great model for beginners looking for a battleship! My 6 year old decided he would ask Santa for a model battleship to build for Christmas which was odd and I really read reviews looking for a simple one and this seemed to be as easy as I was going to find. I figured it would be a project for him to do with his grandfather, to my surprise, he did most of it himself. It came out great, like some previous reviews a read when I got it, some of the bigger pieces are a little warped but we made it work. Overall it was great! 4... the first model I've ever done and I absolutely LOVED it! It's a great starter kit (iThis revell Missouri was the first model I've ever done and I absolutely LOVED it! It's a great starter kit (i.e., not thousands of pieces and really inexpensive). It did take me several weeks to finish but I was also being a bit of a perfectionist and make sure I took the time to make things look as good as they could. As this is my first model, I don't really have the experience to compare Revell as a brand to other products. All I can say is that I was throughly pleased with this kit and would definitely recommend it to someone who is interested in getting into modelling but dosen't want to make an enormous financial commitment yet. I will also say that this kit definitely had its quirks to contend with (gaps between the places glued together, extra plastic on the molds, ect) but I actually found I really enjoyed those little challenges. My dad is an avid modeler (he makes wooden sailboats from plans, molds his own led keels and everything... WAY beyond my skill level!) so he's done a model or two in his time and he said that that's all part of it. Finding ways to overcome those little snags and make things work. You get a lovely sense of satisfaction when you devise ways to fix things!!!All in all, if you've done a lot of models this kit will probably drive you nuts. If you're a noobie like me then I expect you'll simply love this kit. Also, the Missouri is just so beautiful and historic that she makes for a wonderful first build. I was fortunate enough to work on Ford Island as I was building her so I got to drive past the real thing on a daily basis. I toured the ship after building this model and was struck by hour accurate the layout and gun mounts were. 5An old model with faults but great for kids. This is a venerable old model. I bought it for my son to build and demonstrate the excellent design of the hull. The hull made the Iowa so amazing is clearly not represented on this model. It is not the correct shape not even close. Should be labelled as a semi waterline . But it s from 1954Taking that into account it s great. He still used it to show the ship slicing through the water. 4Five StarsPerfect! 5Good, and easy to understand. But not perfectMy first ever model ship, I would definitely continue building these. I will be honest that my paint job wasn t the best, I did do it all under 5 hours with paint included.(And yes, I didn t paint everything the exact way I was supposed to) 5Nice and easyThis is a great model for beginners. The pieces are big and few. My eight year old loves this model more than his others. He likes battleships so this was perfect for him. I would recommend this seller and product to others. 5is it worth it?My son loved this.it took him 3 to 4 hours. 20 to 30 of the pieces were small guns. over all very impressed by the length it was at least 16 to17 inches. I would recommend ages from 8 years old. there was 1 challenging part to put the base on to the ship. this package actually came 4 days faster than planned. If this is your first model i really recommend this. over all great quality. 5
