Customer Reviews

enjoy, tell yourself "HeyThis game, is THE game that will change your life forever. It's not just a game that you can play for a while, enjoy, tell yourself "Hey, that was fun." and then just put it in the closet until the next time it rains outside, or the next time your board game loving friends come back into town. This version of Risk is Risk, but with the lasting effects of people that have made specific choices to change the world, and how the game it played. Each game is different, yes you may need the same set of people for the first 15 games, but those games will FLY by while you itch like a madman to play the next game. At the cost of the game, its worth buying as many copies as you have space in your garage for, because no two games are going to be the same. There is NO downside to this game. Once you start you can't stop. You must not stop.In effect it comes down to this: If you like boardgames, you must buy this game. If you like Risk, you must buy this game. If you like fun, strategy, yelling, screaming, cheering, clapping, and a life changing good time, buy this game. This is a game that is designed to change with you. To get messy, ripped up (seriously you have to), written on, and in the end, conquered. 5Great Deployment GameI bought this as a Christmas present for my husband who is currently deployed overseas. I figured that since he is around the same group of guys all the time (one of the major drawbacks a lot of people had stated was that you need the same group of people to play every time), and they are in a constant state of needing a distraction, this would be perfect. I was right. He (they) love it! His group get together whenever they have some down time and need to unwind and bust out the Risk game. It gives them something to look forward to, which is fantastic. They love the Legacy aspects of the game, and how it changes things. Nobody seems to have dominated all of the games, and the game has progressed pretty evenly so that the later games are still fun for everyone. They really look forward to it and are constantly scheming about new strategies for the next game. For that alone, I'd buy this again for sure. I'll be looking at more Legacy games in the future. 5Absolutely brilliant - the most innovative board game I've played in yearsAt first, I couldn't fathom why anyone would buy a board game that's only good for a limited number of plays. Then I played Risk Legacy with friends, and marveled at how the board, even the RULES of the game changes after every round - completely changing strategies and keeping the game fresh. If we, the same group of friends, had tried to play 15 games of normal Risk, we'd have been bored after the fifth game.Even after we've used up all 15 games on this board, I plan on buying it again - there's just so many ways the board can be changed. This game is /at least/ as replayable as Settlers of Catan, another brilliant strategic board game: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000W7JWUA/ref=as_li_tl?ie=UTF8&camp=1789&creative=390957&creativeASIN=B000W7JWUA&linkCode=as2&tag=todmedblo-20&linkId=KEEAL7G6PEI7QP3WI hope you found this helpful, and I'm happy to answer any questions you have in the comments section!P.S. The constantly-changing strategic environment makes this even more intellectual than normal Risk - if you're looking for something a bit more lightweight and fun, I just discovered Sentinels of the Multiverse and am loving it: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0095ZFA5Q/ref=as_li_tl?ie=UTF8&camp=1789&creative=390957&creativeASIN=B0095ZFA5Q&linkCode=as2&tag=todmedblo-20&linkId=FX4OBAFJFAX2X3O3 5Just do yourself and 4 of your friends a favor and buy it.Alright let me start out by saying that you need a group of friend to play this with. The closer you get to playing with the same 5 people each game the more fun you will have. A large part of risk legacy is that the game evolves with each game you play. You will unlock new ways to influence the game board and screw your friends over for games to come. a decision made in game 3, might be the thing that helps you win game 7. Now a great part of this game is that each color has its own personality. Red and green are not in any way equal, some colors are better defenders or attackers. And their abilities also change and evolve over time. This lead me and my friends to house rule it that we ALWAYS play the same colors. this made it so when one of us permanently nerfed one color the player that that color had a forever grudge. I'm writing this review as i order my second copy of the game, because unfortunately after you play the 15 games this game is intended for its kinda hard to bring in new people so you have to re buy it. But trust me it is worth it. This is easily 60 hours of quality entertainment with friends for the price of an afternoon at a bowling ally, or a nice dinner. 5This is a great idea and new take on an OLD gameThis is a great idea and new take on an OLD game!! My husband's family has had a tradition of playing RISK each year for Thanksgiving, but now will be playing the Legacy version, at least for the next 15 times; each year leaving behind a little more of their "legacy". It's a really neat idea and they seem to have a ton more fun with new rules and a new spin on things. I would definitely recommend this game! 5Amazing game!It was nerve-wracking the first time we played. WHAT? We're supposed to RIP UP PIECES OF THE GAME? It also took us a long time to play the first round, because three of the adults had played the old Risk and we were still playing by old Risk strategies. Then one of the young people at the table, who had not been doing very well up to that point, realized he was within a turn of capturing enough headquarters to win the game... and he did so, in one fell swoop. Took us all by surprise, and we were all delighted. Now each game goes much faster because we've all realized the strategies are different and more fun! It's a more balanced game, and faster, than the old one. And everyone wants a chance to make changes to the game board, so each round is FIERCE!Highly recommended. One of the best gifts under our tree this year. 5Awesome game and it is way faster then regular Risk. This game was great! My family thinks Risk takes too long, but loves the game, so my biggest question was how long does this take. It is interesting, I do think like some others said the game will take between 30 mins and 2 hours. Our first game was very quick and the 2nd game was fast as well. We were playing and the funny thing is your right in the middle of the game and then the finish comes really fast. Unlike regular Risk where it drags on at the end forever. My entire family had fun with this. BUY THIS GAME! One big tip. Read the instructions before you play. There is a lot that is different from regular Risk and if you read the night or a few hours before you play it will really help the game flow on play #1 5Packaged WrongMy friends and I are loving this game. Too bad we're 8 rounds in now and one of the boxes was totally spoiled for us. There's 2 mystery boxes inside the game box; one says to open it when somebody is about to place 30+ troops at once, and the other says to open it when 3 missiles are used in 1 roll.3 missiles happened, so we proceeded to open the box. I look down at the first card and what do I see? "The player that is about to place 30+ troops..." Turns out the 3 missiles box was in the one labeled 30+ troops and vice versa. One of the main mechanics that makes this game different than normal Risk is that there are surprises and changes that happen throughout the games, and now that was totally ruined. 1SOME MILD SPOILERS-SOME MILD SPOILERS-Ok, I have played 4 games now with 4 players each time. It certainly is better than classic risk, mainly due to the shorter duration. The first 3 games were just sort of fun. The 4th game was much more interesting and we just unlocked the draft rules which I think will greatly improve the balance of the game. If you can push through the first few games it gets better, but that is why I can't give it 5 stars. It is true to the spirit of classic risk, its still all about negotiation and dice chucking. There seems to never be much back and forth combat. It has always been one player makes a sudden push and wins in one turn. That is not quite as exciting as classic risk, but thats the price you pay for the shorter game. I've managed to win 3 of the 4 games so far, and now I'm worried about the meta game of teaming up against me. But, I suppose that is to be expected. I would say try the game, but only with fans of Risk. It likely won't change your mind if you don't care for classic Risk. 4Buy All "Legacy" Board Games! If a board game has "Legacy" in it's name, it's a must buy. This is the best version of Risk in my opinion. I own 3 copies of it. Every time this game comes out people want to play and keep playing. No one has ever left dissatisfied. The fact that the game grows and changes depending on the players involved makes it a whole new game every play through. Risk is great, but risk with varied armies with different strengths, weaknesses and strategies is a blast. On top of that the board changes too, no place remains the best place to start or capture.I never get tired of "legacy" games, check out Pandemic Legacy too! 5
