So cute and detail is spot on!They aren't "life like" but they are realistic enough to serve the purpose they were purchased for. I wouldn't purchase them for a child who is still a "chewer"(kiddos still teething or kiddos who gnaw on things when they get anxious - etc.) , but for older children and addition to displays, decorative or educational, they are designed well enough for that.Purchased these for my adult daughter to keep in her office at work. She is vet tech and often has children come into the office when their pet is seeing the vet. She uses these to distract the kiddos and keep them busy as the vet takes care of their pet/talks to the adults about the pet care. The kids love them and my daughter has been a penguin nut since an early age, knows about everything there is to know about the species and can "teach the kids" about the birds in a fun way that keeps them focused on her and not worrying about their pet and what the vet might be doing. 5Almost perfect... but that's what you get from quality control these daysWe did a unit on penguins in our home school classroom so I was very excited to find this toob! I was really pleased to read in the description that it contained such varied examples of penguins. I also read in the reviews that I might not get the exacting detail I was hoping for, but I ordered anyway and kept my fingers crossed. Aside from our Rockhopper having a SOLID BLACK crest, we are decently pleased. Sure, the painting is smeary on some of the details (mostly eyes, etc.) but you get what you pay for. We were able to easily identify every one. I would have been willing to pay twice as much for better details (and I decent Rockhopper), but I won't complain at this price. This is a good set that we will use for years. 4Amazing!These penguins are amazing. Good size that was really nice and suitable for my daughter Antarctica diorama project! 5These penguins were perfect for my daughter's diorama projectThese penguins were perfect for my daughter's diorama project. There were different types if penguins not cheaply made. Good for little hands to touch and not easily broken. 5Our Set is Not As PicturedMy son really likes penguins so I bought him this set. These are just okay. Our set looks quite a bit different than the photo provided. They are not painted nearly as well and some of them are painted different colors/missing colors. Our Rockhopper has an orange beak and no yellow on his head (his head is completely black). We got two swimming ones, and they are slightly different, but they both have their flippers out. As far as showing the different species of penguins, many of ours are painted so similar it is hard to distinguish them. For example the South African penguin is pictured with a grey body, black face (with a bit of red above the eye), black feet and white under its chin- ours is just black & white. Our Galapagos penguin is painted completely wrong- again, ours is just black and white. Really, right now comparing ours to the photo makes me really disappointed with this purchase. These equal out to be about a dollar a penguin and ours are so poorly painted, they definitely weren't worth that price. I bought these several months ago but we just now opened them for a winter sensory bin so I think it's too late for me to return them. These would be a lot more educational if they were painted like the real penguins. Oh well, he likes playing with them. 2Good & bad pointsWhat I like: These penguins have small labels on the back telling what kind of penguins they are! Great for my little penguin loving boy.Another thing I like: They are small. This makes clean up quicker because I can threaten that they will wash down the drain if not put away fast enough!What I don't like: They may not be meant for tub use, but we had only had them for a few weeks when the paint started chipping on their white tummies.I also don't like: Why are some of them grey? They should be black and white. I don't know why, but that bothers me.I really wish that they made all the other species of penguins, because we would love to have a whole collection of all 17 types of penguins! 3Great deal for so many penguinsMy daughter loves penguins and this Toob of penguins worked perfectly for her kindergarten project about penguins. She knows all of the types of real penguins, so was not convinced of the accuracy of some of the colors on them, but still enjoyed them. They were the perfect size and fit very well in her diorama/habitat, and I am sure she will continue to play with them. It was a great deal for so many penguins. 5Good variety, lower qualityWe have searched for awhile for an assortment of penguin figurines, so I was very excited to find this! It could have been a bad batch, in fairness, but our TOOB's contents weren't that great as far as quality. There are quite a few paint mistakes, one is missing a little bit of paint and one had some dirt like substance that I had to scrub off. It's a good variety, which is difficult to find and serves the purpose for which I purchased, but the quality could definitely be better. Of course, you get what you pay for and this is a very low price for any type of figurine set. 3Fantastic quality!!You cannot go wrong investing in Safari, Ltd. animals! We have a large collection from over the years and they have been played with more than any other toy in our large family and are going onto another generation now. These were special for a granddaughter who loves penquins- but I wish I had realized how small they were because they have to be saved for at least a year so they won't be a choking hazard. My mistake. 5some of them are nicei was disappointed with this tube. the daddy penguin with the chick has been glued not quite right... so the baby is not tucked into its position and looks strange. about half of the penguins have red eyes with no pupils. this is not so cute. too bad. some have the eyes painted not quite in the right spot. about 4 or 5 of these penguins are cute, a few are ok... the rest i am not excited about. my kid favors the cute ones of course. the others aren't being played with much. i think they are fine toys, but if i had picked these out one at a time most of them i would've passed on. my kid really likes the few nicely painted penguins however,, ... maybe we just had bad luck on the paint job. 3
