THE GAME OF FAST-THINKING CATEGORIES: Since first hitting the market in 2010, Scattergories Categories has been entertaining quick-witted Scattergories fans everywhere with its fun twist on the original game.
HOW TO PLAY: This unique iteration of the classic game includes all new word challenges. Each round starts with a word and phrase. For instance, the card says "bottles" and "things made out of glass." You have two minutes to list as many things made out of glass as you can that start with the letters in the word "bottles." For example, "bowl" for "B," "orb" for "O," "teacup" for "T" and so on. When time is up, players compare their lists and get 1 point for each unique answer.
DESIGNED FOR EVERYONE AGES 12 AND UP: Scattergories Categories is designed for 2 or more players ages 12 and up. Game time ranges between 25 and 35 minutes. Perfect for family game night, games with friends, or as a great party game for groups of all sizes.

FunThis went over extremely well with my family. They loved the original, but this plays easier and quicker, I believe. The sand in the timer gets stuck sometimes, and I'm the one who is forced to keep track of the time since there's no buzzer. There's really no practical reason for the game to have the red stand or the funky labeled cards- they could have been smaller which would have allowed more than 125 phrases. I sound negative but this game is loved by my family (FYI all women).The original has tons of more replay value, but this is a good way to spend an hour on the weekend. 5We love playing this & it really makes you put your ...Bought this to play with our 9 yr. old grandson. We love playing this & it really makes you put your thinking cap on. It's been a go to game when he comes to visit. Would be great for friend/family game night. We don't use the timer til someone really gets stuck, so it speeds the game along. The cards are very sturdy & laminated, so they should last for a long time. Although the game comes with score pads also, we just use notebook paper. Makes a nice gift for someone who likes games. . 4Not as much fun as the originalFirst let me just say that Scattergories is my favorite game ever. It is never the same no matter how many times you play. I got this for my family to play during Christmas family time. It was OK but not as much fun. One thing keeping to one topic was tough for the 10 & 12 year olds. If they did not know the topic very well it was too hard for them to play. Even the adults found it harder to play. But it is a nice twist and made us use out brains which is always good. 3Great Game for Family Game NightMy family liked this game a lot. At first I thought it would be easier than the regular Scattergories but boy I was wrong. It is a good bit harder and you really have to think to hard to get in a response for each letter of the category before the two minutes is up. Good luck with that.I did not like the hour glass timer. No one is going to sit and watch the sands of time slip away. We used a kitchen timer so that no one would have to keep an eye on it.It would be nice if you could purchase extra answer pads. They would probably be less expensive than the ink it takes to make copies.Overall, it is a great game and I would recommend it to anyone. 4Fun games for all agesOur family has loved Scattergories for ages. This is a great and fun spin on that older game. Everyone in our family has been having fun playing it. Recommend! 5Never a dull momentI go to a once a month games night, and this game has become very popular. We don t always stick to the rules, but we laugh a lot! Much more fun than its predecessor and really challenges the imagination. 5Awesome GameMy family and I have only played this new version of Scattergories twice so far, but we all agree. This one is much better than the old version of Scattergories! It is fresh and different, and it changes one of the annoying mechanics of the old game. You don't have to think of words that all start with the same letter, you get to think of words that start with the letters that make up a word written top to bottom. For example, if the catergory is "types of cars" the card might have the word Automobile written from top to bottom, than you have to think of a word that fit that category that starts with "A", and then "U", and then "T", and so on and so forth. Great game overall, fast paced, fun, ridiculous, and very educational! 5Lots of fun even for just two players.I purchased this game with the intention of having a game night with a lot of people over. However, before I was able to plan that on a rainy December day my boyfriend and I decided to give this game a try with just the two of us playing. We initially figured it wouldn't be as much fun but maybe we'd enjoy a few rounds. Well we ended up playing for almost an hour or more! We were laughing and goodhearted making fun of each others words. A lot of the categories may seem so simple when you look at the cards but once you start the timer, it can be a challenge!A few categories were a little too open to interpretation so you may want to set some rules of your own on those, which may only make it more fun and challenging. For example, "Things that are Red", well almost any object "could" be red. So we tried to stick to things are commonly or naturally red - such as an apple, blood, a theater curtain, etc.Overall a great time for a couple or a group! 5A nice companion to the original ScattergoriesMy parents really enjoyed this game because they felt freed up to write more answers and didn't draw blanks like they did in the original Scattergories. They got more points and felt more successful so they liked it better. I actually like the original better because in this version there are so many possibilities that no one ever had the same answer to cancel each other out, and I find the challenge of thinking of a unique answer to avoid cancelling to be part of the fun of Scattergories. I still enjoyed the game, though, it just wasn't as challenging to me. 4Easier than the original...fun for the whole family!My family really enjoys this game. I decided to buy another one to give as a gift for Christmas. It has been simplified, condensed, and streamlined compared to the original version, but this makes it easier for younger children to participate. My 9-year-old daughter plays along, and her youth actually gives her a bit of an advantage at times. My husband, son, and I try so hard to come up with unique answers, and she often earn points by writing in the easier, obvious choices. :) My only issue is the amount of time given. It is difficult to fill in every space with a unique answer during the 2-minute time limit. I suppose that is part of the challenge, because this leads to more duplicate answers and empty spaces. I can understand the need for added pressure and excitement, but I think we will add another 30 seconds to a minute on our own timer to give players a chance to come up with really clever words. This is the teacher in me talking...I think this game is a potentially great tool for building vocabulary skills. 4
