Customer Reviews

Its great for professional useThis thing is handy. I used it to inspect plant growth/maturity and pest infestation in the greenhouse and it worked great for months until it got moisture in the lens.it still turns on but I can't see anything. Keep it out of extreme humidity or wet conditions and it's a great tool. Im going to order another one because i liked it so well. 5decent considering the priceAs a child/teen, I had a hand held microscope that looked very similar to this. I purchased this in hopes to pass one along to my son. This one is considerably lower in quality, but given the price it's still a decent item.I showed my kid the detail on a penny (Lincoln sitting inside the Lincoln Memorial) etc. It's a bit difficult to focus and the directional switch for the light sticks routinely. I'd not buy it again, nor recommend it to a friend. That said, It arrived at my door less than 24 hours from the time I ordered it. And it was practically free. So I can't complain.Still, if a friend offered one to me for free, I'd probably turn it down in search of a better one. My son wanted one to better examine his many cuts, scrapes and scabs. My dad collects stamps and has poor vision. I will probably see if he finds it useful. 4A Useful Tool and ToyThis is a replacement for my beloved Radio Shack pocket microscope, and seems to be the same gadget, only with a slightly different shell. This is a very useful device for examining coins and fabric. I think a child with a scientific bent would enjoy this little microscope immensely, and it is inexpensive. 5It's okay. They've been making these things forever! I had one as a kid. Got one for my son, but the battery compartment cover is VERY loose. My son somehow had it come off and then the metal battery contacts inside bent, and it didn't work after 24 hours. I bent the contacts back and taped closed the battery compartment, so it does indeed work again...but it will be short lived, no doubt. So....this thing is definitely not very sturdy and would only be for responsible adult and older child use only. It will break within 15 minutes if someone careless uses it. 3Flimsy PiecesThis is a little hard to get the hang of but is a cool concept. The clear plastic area at the bottom is not very secure and will pop off whenever touched. I would give more stars if that piece didn't slide off constantly. We gave this to our 6 year old, so I do have a fear of losing that piece. 3Years of pleasure with 4 or 5 in my family, but....gifted one didn't work! This will be a mixed review. We have owned 4 or 5 of these through the years of raising boys, so I didn't hesitate to purchase one as a gift for our 9yo great nephew at Christmas. The ones we owned were great and brought lots of "oohs, aahs, and yucks" to our family as they prodded and looked at carpet fibers, bugs, cuts, scrapes, leaves and more. So, I was very disappointed when my niece reported right after Christmas that they could not get the one I sent as a gift to work :(.This is a responsible and careful family, so I would think it was handled well and not broken before use. I will update this after I try to get my $ back or get a replacement. SO...as a mother of a 24yo, 22yo and 17yo who used 4 or 5 throughout the years, they are GREAT. As someone who purchased one as a gift and it didn't work...I am sorely disappointed. 3Very good! Not a precision instrument but plenty good, nevertheless. This little pocket microscope is quite incredible. It is powered by common AA batteries and provides **plenty of light** focused on the item being examined which makes for a nice clear crisp image. When I put batteries in this microscope and tried it for the first time, I used it to magnify a word that I had written on a piece of plain white paper with a standard "lead" pencil. After I mastered how to focus properly, I could even see the **fine particles of graphite dust** on the paper adjacent to the word that I had written! We have a 7-year old youngster in our family who will have a great time with this. (This is the same youngster who was experimenting with a large magnifying glass one sunny day recently.... And set our Halloween scarecrow on fire!)This is not a precision instrument, but it's more than a toy. I can't say how satisfactory it would be for serious adult use.Footnote: This microscope produces an upside-down image. It might take a bit of practice for a youngster to maneuver properly. 5The Best Magnifier for the Money and YOU WILL LOVE ITI've purchased several of these now because every time someone comes to my house they pick mine up and can't put it down! Everyone wants to look at everything through this powerful little magnifier- kids and adults. One was given to me as a gift and I've purchased several more as gifts for others. Not one person was disappointed including ME. The price is right and it will bring hours of joy to anyone. You'll see- buy one and you'll be inspecting everything in sight for the next hour or two! Any time you need a little gift, this is perfect for anyone and it's very useful too. I can see splinters in fingers, flaws in the stones I use for jewelry, into wounds, checking out jewelry, coins, anything I need a close look at. LOVE these. 5Be prepared to manually fix the battery areaI had one of these as a kid and bought two, so, since I had the issue with both, I would say it's worth noting. Within moments, literally, the light began to flicker and it was due to the batteries no longer being in constant contact with the terminals or contact points. The reason, from what I could tell, is that the metal conductor tabs are so poorly manufactured that once they bend (upon inserting a battery, as you typically would), they lack the spring necessary to maintain tension.I managed to wedge a small wad of electrical tape behind them on the negative side (the only side you can access) and that sort of works but it is only a matter of time before this device no longer works given that is a temporary fix. Pretty disappointing for me since I was eager for the kids to have a reliable microscope.I'll keep looking. 1A great tool AND gift!I always wanted one of these as a kid and finally bought one on a lark about ten years ago. I discovered it's actually a great tool for a variety of purposes. It really provides usable magnification for examining small objects. I've even used it to guide splinter removal. I enjoyed it so much I made sure to buy my son one. 5
