Description

SnapWords® Cards are essentials for teaching sight word recognition to a wide variety of learners, including visual learners, children labeled with ADD or ADHD, autism, dyslexia, or right-brained learners. The images embedded into each word ensure that children gain a rich sight word vocabulary as easily as a camera snapping a picture and storing it in memory. But that's not all. Beyond just recognizing the words, the tools on the reverse of each card move children past calling out words to really understanding what they mean and how to use them in sentences. The reverse of each card displays the word without a visual and describes a hand motion for the word - a necessary tool for many kinesthetic learners and children with dyslexia. In addition, a sentence using the word and coordinating with the visual on the front of the card focuses children's attention on the meaning of the word and how it is used in everyday communication. Use the SnapWords Pocket Chart Cards in centers, for partner review, sentence building or independent practice; the number of ways to use these smaller SnapWords® is only limited by your imagination and your students' needs. Also effective in pocket charts for sentence-building, sentence or phrase unscramble, or review (students turn the cards to the reverse side as they learn the words through the visuals on the fronts). For children who need to understand the function of words before they can focus on learning phonics rules, these cards provide the answer. List A includes 59 high-frequency words. Each card is 4.25 by 2.75.

Customer Reviews

Amazing! These cards have helped so much! There are not enough compliments to give to the creator of these. Almost 7 months with regular and homemade flashcards and our 6 yo could only identify 11 (inconsistently) Sight words. After 1 month with these, she is now identifying 32 and has them down even without the picture now! I am amazed and so grateful 5They work!I am special ed teacher and have used these for almost a year. They work. They just flat work. If you have kids that are rearranging letters in their words or having trouble consistently remembering sight words just by flash cards these are like magic. If you have a child that is more kinestetic they're not as effective. I have found younger kids that are learning these for the first time don't do as well with the cards. These are really the most effective in my older (~2nd grade) dyslexic students. 5Blown away . Seriously . My kid WANTS to read now !It sounds crazy to give flash cards such high praise but These cards are amazing !!! My son is 7 and has mild dyslexia . He has struggled so much with reading and has very low confidence with it . We literally opened these cards and he sounded out the first 20 or so using the pictures for clues , we then repeated those same cards and he read every word without hesitation ( that s a big deal !!) so I figured ok that was crazy let s turn them around and try without the pictures . I honesty was expecting him to be sounding out each word again and switching around letters but he didn t !!!!! You guys this is my son who would read the word cat and five words later read it as tac or act needing to decode it again even though he just read it . But he read all the words instantly on the pictureless side with no hesitation and that Was after only reviewing the with pictures side twice !! I am completely awe struck and so grateful . His confidence grew immensely in just a few mins and he asked to read them again , ASKED ! He enjoyed having the ability to read them and was so proud of himself . This all took place in 10 mins . I don t often write reviews and I am not impressed easily . This is a big deal . If we got results like this in just a few mins imagine a few days or weeks . These cards are worth every penny . Your child will thank you . 5Coming from a Kindergarten teacherI ordered all three sets of these sight word cards primarily for my students whom I suspect are dyslexic, and also for one with very slow cognitive abilities. These are cards are worth their weight in gold. The illustrations along with the hand/body movements associated with each word really hit a whole spectrum of learners. I will be adjusting plans for next year to incorporate these for my whole class. 5The best sight word flash cards ever!I m homeschooling my daughter this year for pre-K and I ordered these to start sight words with her and she LOVES them! They make learning sight words fun! She loves looking at the picture and saying the sentence for each word while doing the motion. It has amazed me how many words she has learned to read already with the help of these cards! These are a great buy for any classroom or anyone looking to work on sight words with your kids at home! 5Amazing.I took about ten cards at a time to introduce my five year old to these the summer before kindergarten started. She has mastered the A pack and we are starting the B pack. School starts next week. After reading the cards only once the words (picture side) were memorized. The plain text side just took repetition of showing first the picture side, then the plain. My three year old has also picked up a lot of the words, just by watching us go through them. Can't recommend these enough. The cards involve almost all the different types of learners. 5Look at the size carefully!I was so looking forward to these cards. I m a special education teacher and work with some students with autism. I was expecting bright vivid colors and most colors are dull. I also was disappointed in the size. The cards are small, but that s my fault. I should have read the description more closely. I guess when it says you can use with your whole class, I thought they would be larger. Finally, many of the motions are just motions and don t seem to really help cement the word in the learners mind. With all that said...I m still going to use the cards in small group instruction. I m hopeful that the visuals will be helpful for my students with autism. 2Great for Downs child and/or ApraxiaLOVE THESE CARDS! My son has Downs and has Apraxia. He is only semi-verbal but articulates well when using these cards! There are even motions to go with it. My son uses the motions to secure the words. For instance, "want" is a pulling motion. If he forgets, I do the motion and he says "oh, want" It really helps! 5Worth every penny. My 3 year old twins love it. We started with one word at the time and now we are working our way up to sentences. 5Make Learning FUN!These cards are a great way to get kids interested in learning sight words. I chose to start using SnapWords to teach sight words to my Pre-K students primarily because the method is a fun way for students to understand and associate the words into their lives. Similar to how, as preschoolers, they learned the alphabet by creating fun letter art. (X made into an xylophone, B made into a bear, etc). I believe my students learn better when they are having fun and these cards are a lot of fun compared to basic memorization. One side of the cards has a picture that visually demonstrates the motion for the word (for students). On the back of the card, the sight word is written in simple black font with a detailed explanation on how to motion the word (for adults).I debated between ordering the flash card size or the pocket chart size, and ultimately chose the smaller size so the kids could eventually use them on their own in our pocket chart center in class. I would recommend laminating the cards for extra durability. They are printed on heavy card stock, however they are still pliable (see photo). Plus laminating the cards protects them against spills or markers, etc (which is important in a preschool!)To begin teaching with the cards I come up with a story that frequently uses the sight word. After, I'll talk about that specific word and then introduce the card along with the motions. I ask the student to repeat the word with the motion to me and then turn to their partner and repeat the motion to each other. I also like to make harder words our password for the day to exit class or move onto a fun activity (free choice or recess). After most of the students have memorized the word I flip it over to the plain word and put it on our word wall pocket chart. When reviewing, if students struggle with the sight word I will flip the card over to the motion graphic again.I highly recommend these to parents who want to introduce sight words or reinforce the words their kids are learning in class. I recommend these to teachers looking for a new and fun way to teach or expand the memorization efforts for words. 5
