Customer Reviews

*Amazing* game - with or without the expansions!!Scythe is one of my favorite games EVER!!! The base game was great alone, and the expansions just make it better and better. With all the expansions, there are so many ways to play that we ll be loving this game for YEARS to come. No way anyone could be bored with this amazing game! If they are, they re doing something wrong. 5This game is just awesome. It combines elements of so many board games out there you may have tried, Catan, Seven Wonders, Ticket to Ride, etc. Once you and your crew get the hang of it, games go pretty quickly and can be extremely exciting. It's a cool feeling when someone ends the game and you have NO IDEA who actually won, it can often surprise you. 5New Personalities Adds Great Flavor to ScytheScythe: Invaders from Afar adds two new factions to the base game. Each new faction has a significantly different flavor compared to the base game factions. Their unique abilities allow them for more powerful territory management abilities via traps and flags. The depth added to the game by these tokens ratchets up tension. Watch Albion grinding and then dropping a flag on the factory is pure exhilaration.I must agree with other reviewers though that a few antennae on the green mechs are fragile and broke. It doesn't diminish the expansion though. 5Excellent Addition to ScyteTwo new Scythe countries? Yes please! 6-7 Players? Probably not the best idea, but why not! What a great expansion, new player boards, some fixes to current countries, additional cards. It's more scythe at a decent price. Well worth it 5A good first expansionA great expansion for Scythe, I like both of the new factions - they lack some of the same type of movement abilities of the other factions but make up for this with more specialized actions over all. Especially nice is their shared ability to lay flags/traps and use these as instantaneous waypoints. The mini & pieces for the Albion Faction (Scotland) look great and are very detailed, likewise bits for Tokogawa (Japan) looks decent too but I am not a fan of the style for some reason (I guess their parts look a bit bulky to me). Fits right inside the original game box. 5So good. This expansion adds two very unique characters who bring a lot to the game without disrupting the fantastic rhythm the base game maintains so well. Playing with 7 is really fun, but note, the board does get crowded, so if you have a large enough table to play with the board extension, it is totally worth it. Also, I love this game's lore. Read the character backgrounds! 5A great first expansion for an already stellar board game. This expansion for Scythe adds 2 completely new playable races and a few new tokens. Now it may not seem like much at first but once you really start digging into what these races really offer, it becomes a game changer. First of all but adding two more races to the game, it effectively increases the player cap to 7 players! Now I haven't played a 7 player game YET but I can imagine it would get crowded pretty quickly on that board which would make for a more intense game.As far as the 2 new races go, at first I thought they were pretty over powered as both of their starting locations on the board are not blocked off by a river or water so they are free to roam about the land right off the bat before any upgrades. However after delving into the other races abilities I discovered that they have some abilities that allow them to move around the board much quicker so it pretty much evens out. The new abilities that the new races have are unique and interesting. I especially like the Togawa ability to lay down traps, this is freaking awesome in more ways than one. First off when you lay a trap it claims that land as yours so it adds to your overall land score at the end game. However an opposing player can still capture that land BUT it will set off the trap which will impact 1 of 4 different things against that player such as their popularity or military power. The second race, the Albion, are also interesting as they can place down flags on land they control which effectively doubles that land count. So the piece of land that they have flagged it worth 2 instead of the usual 1. Not quite as neat as the Togawa's ability but handy nonetheless. As far as the pieces go, they are amazing as per usual. The two new character's are very well represented in plastic with the human's accompanying their respected animal companion. The mech's are represented in green and purple respectively and each have their own unique look. Same goes with the little wooden worker pieces. The expansion also adds some new money tokens of a higher value. You probably won't ever use these unless you are playing with at least 5 players though. Not much else is included as the original game board already has the places printed on it for the two new races. All in all I highly recommend this expansion if you are craving more after playing Scythe. 5Two Additional Factions for ScytheInvaders from Afar will give you the green and purple factions, along with two new work mats (Innovative and Militant). We can't stop playing this game; so, obviously, we had to get this expansion! So glad we did! It expands the game from a 5-player game to a 7-player game. Scythe has become my new favorite game! So many hours of entertainment for the price! 5Must have expansionThe two new factions are lots of fun to play. The traps/flags add lots of depth to the already intricate main game. Pieces are high quality. I recommend this expansion to anyone who has the original. 5Two fun new factions, but not much else. Both new players are fun to use, and include a little more variety as they replace the +1 speed with a different ability. But do note this changes basically nothing of the core game. If you buy this expansion, and then play a game using only the 5 base factions, this expansion won't offer anything new. It does offer updated mech skills for two existing factions, but they should only be used in 6/7 player games. 5
