Customer Reviews

Cute picture, terrible puzzleThe cardboard is "squishy" and the pieces don't want to fit together. Very frustrating! And the big cat is almost impossible to complete since the pieces all look very similar. I bought this because it was cheaper than most of the puzzles here, and got what I paid for. Well, not really, since I'm going to throw this puzzle away. 1unhappyThere is no poster enclosed with this puzzle and with 2 of us working it, its impossible for the 2nd person to do it. I've tried printing the picture from the site but all I get is a little pic, useless! I will not purchase this brand again. For the price a poster should have been included! Update...with great perseverance we finished it. The quality of the fit of the pieces stinks. Just reinforcing my refusal to ever purchase this brand again! 1i like puzzles and this looks just like my favorite cati like puzzles and this looks just like my favorite cat...Had to have it. The pieces have irregular shapes that make it harder to put together. The pieces could be cut cleaner as the edges are a bit ragged. Sometimes it s hard to tell if a piece really fits or not. I found the black cat to be the most challenging part to put together. I still liked it though. All the pieces were there, but then I ve never bought a new puzzle that was missing pieces. I took away a star for the ragged edge-like the piece cutting edge was dull. 4Nice picture. Puzzle pieces fit too tight.I purchased this because the cat looks like my girl. The illustrator did an amazing job capturing the way the light plays off a black cat's coat. That said, I found the quality of the puzzle a mixed bag. The pieces are a nice weight. However, the way they fit left much to be desired. They had to be forced into position. It was frustrating enough that I will avoid this brand in the future. 3Puzzle Pieces a VERY Tight Squeeze!SunsOut is one of my favorite brand of puzzles. I own 4 of them in the 300 piece size and 2 in the 500 piece size and I love them all. This 1000 piece puzzle, On the Shelf, is a huge disappointment. I'm putting it together now for the very first time and the pieces fit so tightly, I had to pinch the border pieces between my fingers to get them to go together. Putting the regular pieces together is a chore. The puzzle is a misery to work with, which is too bad because the picture is sharp and clear and the colors are bright. The subject matter is delightful but I'm not having any fun with this. After one day of frustration, I'm not sure I will even finish it. 2Major disappointment!I was really looking forward to this puzzle. I have a black cat who enjoys nothing more than hanging out on shelves, just like this picture. However, from the start I knew this puzzle was going to be difficult, not because of the subject but rather from the quality ( in this case the lack thereof) of the product itself. In constructing the border I quickly learned the pieces would not lock into place with the satisfying snap expected. In fact they won't stay together. Each time I would add a piece another two previously linked would come apart. I finally decided to proceed with the puzzle and worry about firming it up later. Even worse than the loose fit of pieces is the fact that pieces definitely supposed to go together (titles on the books, for instance) often have to be pressed firmly or even forced to make the connection work.I went back to Amazon to read the reviews - should have done that before ordering- and see this is not just my experience. I have never worked with this brand of puzzle before and will not again. For me the benchmark is Ravensburger. I am surrendering about one third of the way through the puzzle and will return it as defective. 1I had a helper with this oneColorful and challenging with a fair price. It's been a while since I've put a puzzle together, so I was pleased that this one got me back on track. My cat insisted on helping and would like to be the model for the next one. 5My first SunsOut puzzleI love cats and have two, one is a black cat named Layla. When I saw this puzzle I had to have it and when it arrived I could not wait to start working it.As the title of my review states; this was my first SunsOut Puzzle. I loved the artwork and the fact that it could be worked in sections, which is my choice way to solve a jigsaw when possible.I see reviews of this puzzle and many reviews of other SunsOut Puzzles are almost entirely 5-start reviews with nothing but good things to say about the quality of the puzzle. I agree the quality was pretty nice. There were a couple of bent pieces out of the box, but they fit fine so that did not present a real problem. What was difficult for me proved to be the unusual shapes of the pieces and the great disparity in the sizes of the pieces. These two things caused me to have to approach the actual working of the puzzle in a different manner than I usually employ. The only thing that stayed the same was I was able to work the puzzle in sections.I was not able to complete the frame first, as I usually do. I was very near the end of completion of the puzzle before I located the final piece of the frame. Normally when presented a huge section of a puzzle of like color or subject matter, such as sky, grass, or in this case, a solid black cat that comprised the largest portion of the puzzle, I separate pieces by shape and use that information to complete that large section. In this puzzle there were no ordinary-shaped or traditional-shaped pieces such as I normally find in the types of puzzles I have worked for decades. This required change of working style did not prevent me from completing the puzzle and in about the same amount of soliving time as usual, but I did find that I personally did not enjoy this puzzle as much as I usually do. I don't believe I would otherwise rate 'On The Shelf' as a terribly difficult and challenging puzzle, but for the piece shape and size which made it particularly challenging for me.If you do not depend upon working puzzles the same way time after time and if you love different challenges, maybe the review won't prove helpful for you; except to let you know you can find something differnt with SunsOut puzzles. Like most of the reviews, I agree this was a nice quality puzzle, and there is no question the artwork was really nice, particularly if you love cats. Hopefully the review will present some knowledge that I had not seen in reviews about SunsOut puzzles, that is the information about the extremely odd puzzle shapes and dispartiy in piece size. Otherwise, I would rate the quality of SunsOut puzzles 3rd on my list, which is headed by Ravensburger, followed by Buffalo Games.Hope this review will be of particular interest to those persons never having worked a puzzle from this company previously; not to have them not select a SunsOut puzzle, but just to be aware of what sets them apart from many other puzzle companies. Variety is certainly not a bad thing in life or in solving jigsaw puzzles. 4Enjoyable ExperienceA true jigsaw puzzle, and a challenge for me and my grandson (the puzzlers in the family). It was too big, along with all the disparate pieces, to fit on our normal 4' x 2' puzzle table so we had to commandeer the kitchen table. This was inconvenient for us for the days it took to assemble the puzzle, but worth the experience and satisfaction of assembling 1,000 pieces into such a charming picture. The pieces fit fairly well together, although not as nicely as other puzzles made by different companies. Still, we'll most likely put it together again and again over the years. 4I really enjoyed it.its a bit tricky to put it together, I really enjoyed it. 5
