Customer Reviews

Overpriced but my 7 & 9 yr old girls LOVE to use these at every meal. We're practicing dinner conversation at my household and this has been a great tool. The thick acrylic box it comes in must comprise the majority of the price but it makes it an attractive gift. The family version is what I have and I find us skipping many that the kids don't quite "get". I wonder if the kid version might be a better fit but probably won't put out $50 just to come up with better questions. 4Great for engaging kids in conversationIt all started with an email from a Mom's craft group. They talked about a Key Jar. It is a printable list of questions you cut out and fold into a jar and at dinner everyone gets to answer 1 or 2. It is a way of engaging kids and getting their minds working. Our kids like it so much they bring them to the table each meal and make several rounds about the table answering questions.Later I won the Tabletopics classic version at a white elephant party. These are great, but quite a few we have to skip over for our younger kids. Then on Prime day I got these on a lightning deal, SCORE!! They love it, the questions are more geared towards family. This is such a better option than electronics, which we do not allow anyway. They questions lead to so many conversations other than the standard, how was work, school, your day. blah blah blah 5They all actually enjoyed answering the questions as we sat around eating togetherBought this to cultivate family conversations around the dinner table. We are a family of 5: 19yr-old boy, 16yr-old boy and 11yr-old girl. They all actually enjoyed answering the questions as we sat around eating together. A great way to get to know the family better as we answer all kinds of fun "get-to-know-you" type questions. My daughter has started using these topic starters/questions with her girlfriends when they come over and share a meal together. :) There are no right or wrong answers, just an opportunity to safely get to know each other better and even use the topic cards as jumping points for deeper conversations. ;) 5Game changer!!!!These conversation starters have transformed our family. We do conversation starters at dinner, and it introduces fun to the meal. Instead of the dinner battles and forced conversations (i.e. list 2 things positive about your day....), we are experiencing genuine connection and fun at suppertime. It is spilling into other areas of our lives - the kids talk to us more throughout the day and are sharing a lot of details about their lives and how they are interpreting their experiences. They want to spend more time with us. When they have an opinion, they are able to defend it. They have started other fun games too - like sharing riddles and jokes with each other at dinner. Some questions of fun others more serious, and could be asked to a wide age range. Our kids are 7, 9 and 11, but 5 to infinity would be appropriate. 5Too many repeat questions across decks, some questions odd, and too many moral situationsThis company lacks vision and creativity. The 50% of the cards are just boring. Some with grammar issues or hard to understand questions. And they overlap questions with other decks way too much!!!!!! I think I bought 15 decks, and I am really disappointed. The price is way too high, the decks are heavy and the acrylic case will crack very easily. As a matter of fact 80% of the decks were already cracked when I received the products over two different orders. They need to come up with a better idea. These are also hard to carry around, they are too heavy, and all the weight is from the container.I think the cards are useful, but the price/performance ratio is not that great. The price should be reduced and the company should think outside of their box. 3Family Table TopicsMy family is one one a dying breed that eats dinner at the table together every night. Throughout the years, I've used various conversation-starting techniques ("How was your day starting with the letter M?" or "How was your day ending with '... and then I had a delicious dinner!'?) When I came across this cube of cards on Amazon, it seemed like it was made for my family. The price was a little steep, but I decided to give it to myself as a Christmas gift. The cards arrived in good condition; my plastic cube was in perfect shape, not damaged at all as some other reviewers have experienced. Each card has one question printed on it. The questions aren't anything groundbreaking or earth shattering - you could have probably thought of all of them yourself, if you had the time and inclination. The cards include questions such as:what's your favorite dessertwho is one of your heroes and why do they inspire youwould you keep a secret if you knew someone would get hurt if you didif you were showing a foreigner around your town where would you take themwhat's your favorite family traditionwhat do you say when someone gives you a gift you already haveif you could speak another language which would you choosehow does a person become courageouswhat would you like to change about your schoolOverall ImpressionsPros:- My kids (ages 12 and 9) LOVE these cards. They really look forward to answering the questions every day.- The plastic cube is thick and sturdy. The overall design is very attractive.- The cards are thick cardstock and seem durable enough.- These are a fun and simple way to get people talking and thinking at the tableCons:- You may have noticed that the questions listed above have no capitalization and almost no punctuation. I typed them out just as they are written on the cards. Really. This drives me absolutely crazy. I get that it's probably supposed to be "stylistic," and I'm as big a fan of ee cummings as the next gal, but my 9 year old really struggles with writing skills. I would have liked it better if these cards provided more of a model of good mechanics. Would it have killed the people at Tabletopics to at LEAST throw in a comma here and there?? (I won't even bring up the fact that the plurality of the noun and pronoun in the foreigner question doesn't match. Argh!)- The cards are supposed to be used at the table, and ours are. Unfortunately, kids, spaghetti, and white-edged cards do not really mix. After 2 months, our cards look pretty grubby. You could either look at the visible grunge as a design flaw (darker colored cards wouldn't show as much dirt), or you could view it as a testament to how much and often we really do use the cards. :-)- The price was pretty steep (especially considering all the ink they must be saving by skipping the punctuation!) I don't regret the purchase, but if these had been $12 instead of $25, I would really love them! All in all, I like these cards, but I have to remove stars for the atrocious grammar and punctuation. 4You will learn so much about your family!! They are def worth it!My boys (age 10) really enjoy when we ask questions at the dinner table, so instead of asking the generic "how was your day", "what did you learn at school today" stuff, I turned to the internet for questions. I found about 50 I could print out, but once we went through those, the kids kept asking, "do you have any more questions to ask", so that's when I took to Amazon and found TABLETOPICS.They just came in the mail yesterday and the kids were excited to have new questions to answer. Some questions are specific to the kids, "What is your favorite thing to do at recess". But others were great for the whole family to answer like "if you could change one thing in the world what would it be".With normal dinner conversations, it's not very engaging, but with these cards, I learned so much more about my boys! I found out that one plays imaginary baseball with a group of friends at recess, and the other son has a club that "trains" during recess. Learning these things actually prompted my husband and me to dig a little deeper into the recess question b/c I was curious about how they play imaginary baseball and what kinds of things was my other son "training" in.I have now added these to my dining room decor so they are right there whenever we're eating dinner as a family. There are circa 130 questions to a pack, and I did find $25 to be a little steep, but they will get used, and we can incorporate them when company comes over as well. I def plan to buy several of the other packs just so we have plenty of questions to go around. I am also looking forward to seeing how our answers change as we all get older, so I don't think just because we've answered the questions once that we're done with them. 5Simple questions best suited for younger children in elementary school, not middle school or high schoolTABLETOPICS Family is a fun conversation starter. I bought this as a gift for my sister and then purchased one for my own family. It's easy to use, the cards are sturdy and the print size is easy to read. We found the questions a bit to immature for teenagers and the game would be best suited for younger children in elementary school, not middle school or high school. Some of the questions include:** what do you enjoy most about each of your siblings?** which wild animal would you like to tame and keep as a pet?** which three objects would you save first if your house caught fire? The TABLETOPICS Teen version is currently twice the price of the Family version, so I'll wait for a price reduction or shop offline instead of paying $57 for a teen game. 3Great for your surly teens!AMAZING! We're a blended family... I live with my husband who has two children from his prior marriage. My stepdaughter and stepson are 16 and 13 respectively and let's just say that conversation doesn't exactly flow at the dinner table these days. Not only are they teenagers who wish their parents were still married, but they're also of this generation where they don't actually converse much with people anymore. It's all texting and social media and it drives us crazy trying to strike up conversation with them during meals!Enter TABLETOPICS Family, and my step kids actually hold conversations! And with us! The questions are quirky, some more than others, but regardless, they provoke thought and imagination in an otherwise very lifeless meal. My 2 and a half year old also gets quite a kick out of the banter and tries to contribute her two cents quite often. I love watching her vocabulary and thought processes blossom. It's a win win situation. Everyone engages, uses their brains, and forgets about everything that needs batteries for at least the duration of the meal. :) 5Great topics to spark conversationI happened upon this product and ordered it on impulse. The first time I brought it out at home, I thought I would be the family hero for encouraging conversation at the dinner table. These cards provide ideas for conversation for those days when you're too tired to think of anything past "How was your day?"My six year old son answered the first question, then asked me if that was the right answer. I tried to convince him that there was no right answer--the point is just to have a conversation. He got really wigged out and asked me to put them away.I brought them to a family reunion and they sparked some interesting discussions (one such question in particular was: "Would you rather your parents hug you, praise you, or do something nice for you?"). Since we've been back home, my son has been requesting that I go get the cards at dinnertime. One of the cards last night was: "What is your favorite family tradition?" His answer was, "Answering these cards."So I get to be the hero after all :) 5
