All three are excellent and are generally regard as the BEST models of the early Corsairs in any scale.The fit of the parts is for the most part very good; a little bit of extra time is required to fine tune the fit of the wings, if once chooses to build the model with the wings spread. I highly recommend laying the model on one of those green cutting mats with the grid pattern when it comes time to install the pouter wing segments, because alignment on an F4U Corsair is a little bit more complicated than say a P-47 or an F6F. Tamiya chose to incorporate the fuselage spine behind the cockpit as separate components to cater for both the -1 and -1A/-1D versions and its best that these parts be glued to their respective fuselage halves first. The model was designed with the intention of depicting the flaps in the "down" position and they are a bit fiddly to install, but they can be made to fit with some minor trimming of an actuator pushrod and some filing of the locator tabs.The cockpit, if simply painted out of the box with no modifications, is excellent. The decal overlay for the instrument panel dials works perfectly if the surface is properly glossy when you begin.The engine is of a multi-piece modular construction, which makes painting up the separate components and then integrating them a snap. Even without Ignition wires the painted engine looks great.The sliding hood canopy fits well in the closed position, but a vacform canopy is recommended should one want to depict the canopy open to reveal the cockpit interior. Tamiya gives you two canopy options for both the very early and late-build "Birdcage" Corsair.There are several aftermarket products available to refine a few details on the model; resin cockpits, Different wheel and tyre tread combinations, seats with molded seat belts and harnesses, and improved exhaust stacks.The only things that keeps this model from winning 5 stars are the fit and alignment issues with the outer wing panels and the flaps. This kit is very nearly as good as Tamiya's P-47 (generally acknowledged to be the BEST 48th scale WWII single engine US fighter subject). If the model builder has previous experience with Tamiya's F4F Wildcat, P-51D or P-47, Building this model is a snap. I've already built one as a -2 night fighter and i have a -1 Production prototype nearly completed.Recommended without reservations for experienced modelers; recommended for lesser experienced modelers with one or two completed models under their belt. 4Five StarsAwesome aircraft! My husband is NOT very happy with this model. It seems there are parts missing. Most notably the part that holds the propeller in place. Oh is he upset. He wanted to finish it for a local model show...now he has to rush and finish another model from another brand. 1Arrived exactly as described and earlyExcellent service and the model itself is better then expected I wish I had ordered 2 after looking inside the box. If you want to super detailed model the only thing one might want to add is aftermarket seatbelts(decals are provided in kit) and the main wheels. Out of the box it has 4 decal choices ,straight/folded wings ,also the nightfighter version is included. The detail is great crisp clean engraved panel lies zero flash and only a few sinkmarks which are very easy to remove. Highly recommend to all levels of modelers! 5First of the best in Corsair kits, and still the best in 1/48...The Corsair kit arrived (a day early I believe) in good shape as far as I can tell. Have opened it, but left sprues in their plastic bags. In a quick look, seems like everything is there. Now all I have to do is figure out how and where I can build it in our new, much smaller apartment (after living in houses for years).I would love to have the 1/32 Tamiya F4U-1 Bird Cage Corsair, but doubt I'd find room to display it. It would remain unbuilt, in the box. That's why I got this one, in 1/48. This was the definitive Corsair model kit when it came out, and still is, in this scale. The ability to build the F4U-2 night fighter is a bonus. Well done, Tamiya. 5
