Customer Reviews

old kit Good forKit mold from 1970's, old kitGood for beginners 3Five StarsYes everything I expected 5Great starter model.I recently wanted to try a hand at scale modeling. I'm a person that tends to research and try to plan ahead to not come across any unexpected situations. I know I wanted to do a tank/armor or plane but also knew that I didn't want to spend a lot of $$ on a potentially, trial and error build. I decided on this kit being the very first one. I must say I am thankful for the decision. I am still working on the painting/details for camo but overall I felt confident putting this together. I haven't really came across any real cons and any issues I did have such as the back parts for gluing, gluing smaller parts before painting are all user error on my end and again, trial and error in assembly. I wanted to focus on assembly then painting.I feel a couple of things to note with this rating.- I do not plan to paint, use the 3 model figures. It does come with 3 on it's own sprue. I may mess with these later when I'm more confident in painting.- I used Acrylic paints. I ended up just picking up some Apple Barrels from Walmart, for .50 cents each.- I used thin layers, and only needed 2 coats, may apply a 3rd. Using a dry brush if needed to thin out any excess paint but still working on details/adding decals, finishing touches with paint.- I would advise getting a good brush kit with different various brush sizes with this if you are starting out. I would also recommend getting a kit that includes a sculpting knife/exacto knife, with some files to file/smooth edges, tweezers, along with a cutting mat. This will help greatly.I really only have two potential cons and one is probably just a matter of opinion. One would be side footing objects that have indents in the plastic on each side of the turret.I am not sure if a pen vice is needed to create these holes to glue in the side footing but the footing objects were really small. Looking at reference photos, I did not see this really used and figured it wasn't worth the trouble in making holes to fit or using a lot of glue on a small object to attach. The other is cutting from the sprue did leave some sprue attached to the model. I was able to use a exacto knife with a mixture of filing to smooth these out just fine which is why I would recommend getting something to work with this.Overall, I have had fun and continue to have fun finishing this. It did come with two decals, for U.S. and JDF (Japanese Defense Force). To be somewhat different, I am referencing JDF camo and will be using JDF decals once finished and will add photos once done. It fitted nicely together with no open gaps and any were the result of just some filing needed to smooth it out.Edit: Added photos, had a blast. Will work more on the smaller details but happy how it turned out. 5Bulldog tank named for Korean War General KIAThe Walker "Bulldog" tank by Tamiya is one of their earliest AFV kits, so don't look for tons of extra detailed parts as found on today's kit releases. In the late 60s it apearantly was issued in Japan as a more or less motorized toy to be built as a model kit. Very basic moldings, but good enough for a starting point for detaining or conversion purposes. The kit now is sans motor, but the lower hull still has holes of axels and gear drives, etc. Not visible if built as a static model. The subject has been reissued as a much more detailed kit, so that may be what you want to look for. For my purposes, this was the ideal version. It is scarce in US. Hobby shops, so Amazon led me go a seller in the UK! The price was right and even with postage included to air mail it from there, my cost was still less than other on line-sellers here in the States were asking before domestic postage! The kit arrived in less than a week and in good shape. It had been opened by the seller at some point, but that was no problem. It was 100% complete and package was sturdy, so what more can a person ask? I would definitely use this source again. 5Tamiya M41 Walker BulldogAs with every other Tamiya model I have assembled all the parts are very well made and every piece goes together well. Please note that this is a model kit not a toy, you have to put it together and paint it. Playing with it after it is together is also not a good thing to do.The M41 Walker Bulldog has good detail and looks good after it is together. The tracks are two long solid pieces that need to be joined together. There are no extra pieces so you can only assemble it one way. To add detail to the model you need to add your own parts, like from Allied Vehicle Accessories 1/35 Tamiya kit. http://www.amazon.com/Allied-Vehicle-Accessories-35-Tamiya/dp/B00061H4SO/ref=pd_sim_sbs_t_50The model goes together well so you do not need to be and advanced model builder to get a good look. 5gooodgood 5AwesomeReally good kit. 5Forty years later, I still like this old kit.Delivered quickly. I have loved this kit, and the Walker Bulldog tank, ever since I climbed on one as a kid forty years ago and got my first Tamiya model of it. This one makes my fifth, I think. I do different versions, different color schemes and nationalities. It was used by so many nations. That first kit had the twin electric motors, battery pack/remote control with twin levers, connected by wire to the tank model. Great fun for a kid. Now, the very same kit is just a display model. Still looks good, especially with some detail additions. Plenty of add-on machineguns, jerrycans, stowage gear, etc. The basic kit stands the test of time, and is a fun build.Forty years later, I still like it. 5Very good but I noticed something..This is a good model, but it is a M41 Walker Bulldog Turret on a T49 Light Tank Hull... it s a T49 Bulldog! 4Three StarsIt was an ok kit a little old not that many parts 3
