Customer Reviews

We used to get these free in cereal boxes.Just like the old days. My grandkids (ages 8, 5 3) loved it. They asked how it worked. They had fun and learned a little science. 5Follow the directions and you'll be fineFollow the directions and it works like a charm. In this day of smart phones and tablets, the old toys still retain their appeal. My 5 year old loves it. Just make sure you follow the directions. 5Authentic looking.Made a great cake topper for my Dad's Birthday cake. He was in the Navy and had to serve time on a submarine and this was a perfect topper for the cake. 5Fun toyToy is fine. Works as advertised. Thought my three year old would like to play with them, but he would rather drive them around than let them dive and surface. Will be a good toy when he is a little older. 4Doesn't workAs kid, I used to get small versions in cereal boxes back in the 1950's and a larger one I sent in money and a box top for. They worked great. I ordered several of these to give to the children of friends. I followed the instructions carefully several times, and, other than one motion that was probably accidental, it never worked. I'm glad I tried it before handing the others to kids who would have been disappointed. I threw the rest of them out as cool-appearing-but-useless junk. 1Love it!Works great! Took a little bit to figure out how to work the best. Experiment with different brands of BAKING POWDER, NOT BAKING SODA. Cold water works the best too, I've found. Will rise and sink about 30 times per use. Easy to clean and looks great just sitting out. Bought another one to gift. 5got for my dad--he criedMy dad told me about this toy he had as a little boy that he got from a cereal box, and when he opened it on Christmas he cried! He said all of his childhood memories came rushing back. It was the best $8 I ever spent, hands down. 5Great memory toy here! Highly recommend!Just like the original one I played with when I was a youngster. Great old-fashioned toy. 5A Living Fossil AdditionHad one of these as a kid, it was included in a cereal box, or maybe I had to mail in a box-top with twenty-five cents, don't recall. Anyway, I included this in my 20 gal. aquarium containing a "living fossil", plastic fish display. Certainly the sub and I are "living fossils" from another time and place. 5Really does workAt first, we did not think this sub worked. My grandson and I tried it out in a large mixing bowl on the kitchen floor. I think we were not patient enough. Days later we tried it in a backyard pool where the water is deeper and it worked great! You have to wait for the baking powder to interact with the water and make an air bubble that gets big enough for the sub to tip to the side and release. When this happens, the sup descends to the depths. When it makes another air bubble, the sub rises to the surface and stays there until it tips sideways and releases the bubble. Then it sinks again. it is pretty understated, but my grandson and I both enjoyed guessing when the sub would rise and fall and finally when it had consumed all the baking powder and needed to be refilled. My grandson, who is four, played with the sub in the pool after it was empty of baking powder and enjoyed some make believe submarine moments. This is an inexpensive, pleasant toy if you and your child have the patience to let it gradually build up an air bubble underneath that makes it rise and fall. I suggest at least fairly deep bathtub water for real action. A quiet pool, 3 foot deep, was perfect. 4
