Customer Reviews

She loved it, it seemed greatSanta brought this for our seven year old this year. It was the only thing she wanted. She loved it, it seemed great, but then started freezing up after a few hours. It froze up several times, and then we thought it needed new batteries. The batteries were fine though. It just seems to freeze up after an hour of use. We'll have to change it out and see if we just ended up with a dud. Even with it freezing up she claims it's the best present she's ever had.****UPDATE****I'm going to change this from two stars to five. We swapped the blue camera for the pink version and haven't had it freeze up or refuse to turn on once. It is a huge hit and there is a lot of laughter when the camera is being used! It's so popular we've had to limit camera time.5This is a toy!I got this for my 3yo who is obsessed with youtube kids videos, whenever she is playing with something she is pretending that she is doing a toy review. I though she might like to actually be able to make a video - my mistake...The spin around lens is convenient for getting pictures from all angles, but when you are use to modern cell phone cameras you will be highly underwhelmed with this 2.0 megapixel camera. I knew that it was only 2 megapixels when I bought it and I didn't think it would really matter, but if by chance my kiddo did get a good shot of something there is basically nothing meaningful I could do with the picture because the quality is so bad.The video quality is the same, but the real problem with the camera is the user menu. Everytime you want to switch from camera to video mode you have to go back to the home menu where there are about six different modes to chose from. My mom literally could not figure out how to make a video after messing with the camera for about 10 minutes. Although my toddler ultimately has a better chance of figuring the camera out, the user interface seems a little overly complicated.Maybe I got the camera for my daughter at too young of an age, but I can't imagine she would be satisfied with the camera quality for much longer.3One of the best gifts of Christmas 2015 - Highly recommendThis is one of our daughter's (5 years old) favorite Christmas presents this year. For a "toy" it is surprisingly well made. What's more is that the interface is actually quite intuitive and easy to use. There are many fun modes for adding special effects to photos both on the fly as you take the photo, as well as after you've already taken the photo. This is actually quite fun, I find myself playing with it often. The photo quality is pretty poor - but really that is not likely why you would be buying this product anyhow, the photos may be grainy, but they are easily clear enough to satisfy all but the most particular child. The camera has built in memory, but also supports 2 different sizes of memory cards, you can also connect to your computer via included USB cable. The camera feels quite sturdy, and seems as though it could take quite a few drops without any significant damage (I luckily have not tested this yet). The part of the camera that looks like a lens is actually the flash - it tends to wash out photos, but it is easy to disable. The red square above it is the actual shutter- it can be flipped around to take "selfies" which automatically disables the flash as well. You can either look through to dual view-finder windows (easier for a child than the typical single window on most cameras) or you can just watch the LCD screen. Twisting the "lens" also scrolls through several color filters including normal, black&white, rainbow, red, blue, etc..I am very happy with this purchase, and well worth more than the price.5white screen of dead within 5min of useMy 3 year old was really excited when he saw that he got a camera but within 5min of unpacking it he was very disappointed and so was I. right out of the box the camera gave problems where the screen came on once and after the demo screen played the camera then froze and after that the camera screen only displayed white making it impossible to view anything. no matter how much time I changed that batteries and rest the camera It was stuck on a white screen. I'm really disappointed in VTech, my next step is to contact VTech customer service and see what they have to say.12 year old loves it!Purchased this for my two-year-old because she is really into Diego and is all about "click! Take a pic" and wanting to use my camera which is not toddler safe. I love that you can insert your own microSD card for more storage and you can hook it up to your computer to transfer the pictures. There are many features and games on the camera to apply to picture taking that I think my daughter's still a little too young to understand, but it will be a good camera to grow with her. It is kid proof as she has dropped it numerous times and barely a scratch on it. The camera quality I'd say so so, but for a kid camera it suffices. Has big side grips for tiny hands to hold onto and also comes with a wrist strap so they can hang on to it as well. The top of the camera flips forward and backwards so pictures can be taken in front switch to selfies super easily. Overall great value for the price and perfect for my little one.5The quality of the pictures and display is great. It is also very durableI bought this camera for my three year old for his birthday. It exceeded my expectations. The quality of the pictures and display is great. It is also very durable.5See the world from a child's perspective! For the past year, my 5 year old son has been enjoying his Leap Pad and one of the things that he discovered and seemed to like even more than playing educational games, was the fact that he could take pictures/video with it. You wouldn't believe how interesting it was to pick up his Leap Pad and see some of the pictures and videos he had made throughout his day. It is quite amusing to see the world through the perspective of a 5 year old. Unfortunately, the Leap Pad only has a limited amount of storage space for videos/photos and the search for a device that would cater to his new interest began. Some quick searches on Amazon brought us to this VTech Kidizoom camera and it seemed to fit the bill nicely. It has it's own memory capabilities (256mb) but it also has a memory card slot that can accommodate a card up to 32GB. I purchased the camera and the 32GB micro SD card and gave it to my son for Christmas. The camera appears to be well built and designed for tumbles and drops with little ones in mind. The two hand grips are rubber to help absorb the shock of drops. The lens of the camera is actually located at the top where the two window eye holes are and the flash is located where a traditional camera's lens would be. The cool thing about this is that the lens and the flash are actually pretty well protected. If you lay the camera face down on a table, you'll notice that the rubber hand grips prevent the lens and the flash from ever touching a hard surface. It's the same for the view screen at the back of the camera as well. This helps to protect these critical areas of the camera from getting damaged if dropped. The camera also comes with a hand strap (not that my 5 year old really uses it) and also some robust buttons and "D Pad" for operating it's multiple features. The camera has preinstalled games and photo tools that allow kids to decorate their creations, a zoom wheel, a small speaker for listening to the games and their videos, and even tools that allow them to manipulate sound recorded. I didn't even know about that one until I heard my son recording something and then playing it back with some sort of alien like sound to it.This leads me to another important point about this camera. When my son opened it up on Christmas, he really didn't give me a chance to read over the instructions and find out what this thing does. He was more interested in just putting it in his hands and turning it on. So...that is exactly what we did. It was out of the box and in his hands (with the demo batteries still working in it). I usually like to sit down with him and show him what it can do etc...but with the amount of activity that was going on at the time, I didn't have a chance to do that. The amazing thing is, I didn't have to. He was able to figure out more on his own just through experimentation. The device is designed with the child in mind for sure because he was able discover it's features through trial and error. That in itself is a great skill to learn and probably a lot more interesting than going through my boring instruction manual lecture. Watching him playing with it is pretty interesting too. I didn't know that by twisting the knob around the flash you could alter the color filters of the camera...or the thing about the voice manipulation, who knows what he will discover next. The best thing, of course, is when he finally goes to bed and I find the camera laying there on the floor, I can watch his little adventures throughout the day and see things from his perspective. The camera comes with a USB cable that allows you to transfer files from the camera to your computer. The instructions say that it can be used with both PC and Mac. He has been using it since Christmas morning so there are quite a few photos and videos saved on the SD card. I hooked it up to my iMac and found the device through Finder...which would be the "My Computer" icon through windows. Clicking on the folder brought up all of his material and my computer was able to open up the photos through iPhoto and the videos through Quicktime. The cool thing is that I didn't need to install any new software or go to external websites to view the material collected through his camera. Very simple indeed. So far this has been a great purchase. The device seems to be well built and intuitive for children. His Leap Pad sure did take a beating over the years and it held up well so I am hoping that this VTech product can do the same. I must say also that my son has not totally disregarded his Leap Pad. He still plays with that too...mostly for the games now. Very pleased with this as is my 5 year old. I highly recommend.5Ive even played around with it and its pretty cool! I wasn't aware it did all the ...My son loves it. Ive even played around with it and its pretty cool! I wasn't aware it did all the things it does. Quality of pictures and video is pretty good too. Obviously its not the best but its a kid camera. The pictures are clear and recognizable. (when he holds it steady) I read some of the negative reviews and honestly don't know why people were complaining on the quality. Kind of picky and ridiculous if you ask me. (unless they just got a dud or something.)The quality is good enough for my son and good enough for me. Some of the photos he's taken already I am going to print off and frame. (if that tells u anything)5My five-year-old agrees, it's a kid's camera that ISN'T a piece of junk!I've purchased a number of "children's" digital cameras over the years. In general, children's cameras are usually are low priced (compared to "adult" cameras), but usually make you wish you had spent more. Problems have included: Poor construction quality (for a camera that's supposed to be handled by a child?), frustrating user interfaces that can make full-grown adults cry, battery life that forces you to recharge or replace batteries after 3-5 pictures... Let's just say that I'm convinced that most companies who make "children's cameras" value the "quick buck" over the satisfaction of their customers and their children! This is a children's camera that's delivers the goods. By no means will it produce pictures of the quality of an "grown-up"'s camera - the camera's lens is actually in the upper center of the camera. (The "lens" is actually a ring that will allow your child to apply some crude filters, as well as an area that houses the camera's flash.) It seems more like a cellular phone camera than a photographer's camera. It's about 2 megapixels, so pictures (to an adult) might seem a little blurry if you print them out. And you'll probably get a blurred picture if you try to capture a picture of something that's moving.Yes, image quality falls short, by adult standards. But my five year old? He could care less. He takes pictures, he sees the results on the built-in LCD, and he's happy. And he takes a lot more.Bottom line - this was my child's favorite Hannukah present this year. By far. Consider me a satisfied customer.Pros:+ Durable+ My five-year old needed little instruction.+ The display and camera run for days of use without needing new batteries.+ Has a usable flash, a selfie mode, and kid-friendly digital effects.+ Image quality on the screen thrills my five-year-old child.Cons:+ It's a 2.0 megapixel camera. Your cellular phone may have a better imaging system.+ It's a noisy toy. My child likes the sound effects, but you may not.+ Photos of motion will be blurry. Of course, your child will forget about that after he's taken the next photo.+ Unless you secretly delete pictures on a regular basis, you'll need a memory card.5LOVE!!! My kids love this camera. We have had it for about six months now, and it is still going strong. It has also been dropped repeatedly. It has tons of features. I think the coolest feature is the animation maker. My four year old was able to make a short stop animation video. It also includes five games. It does have a volume button so you are able to mute the sounds. All four of my older kids love it. They are 8, 6, 4, and 3. We originally bought it for our 3 year old, because he loves taking pictures. I am including a short animation my four year old created.5
