Customer Reviews

OVERALL GRADE: B minus.I am on the fence with this one even though some of my wargaming friends love it.The few times I learned to play the game it seemed the rules were not always clear and the basic strategies were mundane after a time. However, I haven't given it a fair shake yet so I will have to say more when I play it a few more times. So until then . . . 3IncredibleI normally try to do a little intro to a review and then do a pros and cons list. This game is so fun I can't even think of an intro. This will not be a fair and biased review. I love this game,Pros:BEAUTIFUL COMPONENTS. The board is beautiful, the pieces are beautiful. The components for this edition are magnificent.Streamlined, simple (for a wargame) rules.Balanced, yet asymmetrical. This is a big one. The game has asymmetrical goals for the two sides, and asymmetrical forces, but it is still incredibly balanced, and fun.Deep strategy. The game never feels scripted. The cards are always fun. Even if you get a card that isn't an event for you, it is still useful. It never feels like you can't do anything. All of your options are fun.Cons:Kind of long/complex for the average non-wargamer.Some people don't like the card driven system.Tough choices (for me this is a pro, but if you are looking for something light, go get settlers of Catan. All in all, this game rocks. I love this game. Get this game. Totally under appreciated war game. Love it. 5Replayable and full of goodnessA streamlined, highly playable examination of a fascinating period and war. One of my favorites. 5Wilderness War is a Must BuyThis is really a fantastic game. I'm a big fan of this type of card driven point to point game. It allows the right amount of high level strategy without getting too bogged down in combat results tables and hex maps with complicated rule books. Plus it just looks fantastic. High quality materials, thick gorgeous map board, etc. I can't wait to start a new game with it today and annoy my wife with tales of taking the Ohio Forks, or kicking the French out of Fort Ticonderoga. 5Astonishing and BeautifulWilderness War is beautiful, thrilling, deep and dramatic. It is soaked in the themes of the Woodland Indians, the American Settlers, the French, and the British fighting over control of the Hudson River and the Great Lakes. The Mingo, the Shawnee, the Cherokee, the Iroquois will raid across the frontier. The map, the counters, the colors, all beautiful. If I could, I would force every high school student in the nation to play this game when they are learning about the French and Indian War (1757-1764) 5AmazingVery strategic and just complex enough without being too overwhelming. The rules are laid out nicely and very clear. All my questions so far are answered when I look for them without having to go online. If you are into this time period I couldn't imagine a better board gaming experience to cover it. 5A Great GameThis is a classic game from GMT but is certainly worth it. Though the rules are complex and the learning curve is a bit steep the players are rewarded with a rich gaming experience. Highly recommended! 5
