I had read some reviews that said it tipped over easily, but discovered the trick to that. When you assemble it - no instructions but fairly intuitive - the arms of the base need to face the same direction as the magnifier - see photo - it works like this. If you turn the arms back the other way, it will tip over.I will be using this primarily for cross stitch on 22 count fabric. First test looked good... Hopefully I will not go blind making Christmas ornaments!Uses 3 AAA batteries not included - says they are good for 10 hours.Like I said, so far, so good. Will update if anything changes. 4Practical when you need to hold what you want to see... and not the magnifierThis magnifier is perfect for a variety of tasks where a hand-held magnifying glass will not easily work. It allows hands-free examination. I use it when I'm sewing and need to remove small stitches without eye strain. I'm also a curious person, so it's common for me to want a closer look at something small that I've just encountered-- a bug, a stone, a leaf.The base of the magnifier is lightweight plastic. Be careful not to extend the magnifier too far from the center of gravity. However, the magnifier is also very lightweight and the extension arm is sturdy. I would love for this product to have a heavier base, but the base it has appears to be adequate as long as I'm careful about how I place it on a surface. 4Useful magnifier and looks great tooWriting on behalf of my SO, he's very pleased with the purchase. He can now easily read the small and/or hard to readfaint print on items/newspapers with or without the light on. It will also be useful for tasks that are fiddly such as replacing tiny eyeglass screws etc. As mentioned above, it looks good too, not something that has to be hidden when not in useGreat purchase! 5Too top heavyAt first I loved this, until I tried to use it on a paint-by-number painting. It was way too top heavy, and based on earlier reviews I had it put together correctly (feet facing where the magnifying glass is). It would tip over constantly and the metal arm had very little give- just trying to bend it to the right angle would knock it over. The light feature was neat, but that's about it. I ended up having to just pick it up and hold it- which defeated the purpose of my purchase. Very disappointed. 2I use this to clip my cats' nailsI'm getting older and my eyes are starting to go. I have always clipped my cats' nails and have done so for friends and family pets. It can be difficult to clip nails if their fur is long, their fur color matches light/dark nails, and for elusive nails. It got to the point where I needed a product just like this.I use this once a month on average, I like this product and the light is sufficient when paired with my room light to better see their nails.My only issue with this product is that it's very loose/wobbly on the stand, it moves way too freely and is sometimes difficult to keep in place. 2Helps low vision w/diabetes sticks & injectablesMy aunt was having difficulty reading the numbers on her eppie pen style metered injections. More difficult was holding a magnifier with one hand, while sticking a finger for blood sugar level testing (her vision is extremely poor). This frees up both of her hands, is compact, stable, and works well for her needs. 5Goose neck too stiff and unyielding.I liked the large lens - but can only give one star because the adjustable goose neck was very stiff and inflexible. When I would try to position the lens, it would not stay at the orientation that I needed and would just try to return to a straight position. I returned the unit. 1Very useful item!Getting a lot of use out of this on really tiny numbers on paint by number kits and things like that. Looking for serial numbers on things is much easier with this as well. It's one of those things you realize you should have always had once you own one. Decent sized area to look through with a small closer up window. 5Base is not heavy enough to hold at all angles ...Base is not heavy enough to hold at all angles. Gooseneck is too short for use other than seated at a table or workbench. 2
